I started the morning with a walk on the beach in beautiful weather. Talking with one of the inhabitants I got the impression that Wonga beach is a good place to retire.
I had a lunch appointment with Jon in Port Douglas at 12 o’clock at the Wicked Icecream Shop, at the same time video rentals, Inernet Café and tour booking office. I met Jon right on time and than things began to change. Jon was helping with the preparations for a Christmas celebration to raise money for a defibrillator for the Port Douglas ambulance. Did I mind to give hand? So while talking about his operation with Supersport we packed presents, put up a dummy Christmas tree and so on. Within half an hour I had an invitation for the fund raising dinner, which included a visit from Santa Claus and an invitation to stay the night at Victoria’s house, one of the members of the organizing committee. The dinner was good fun. The average age made me feel young. The plumpudding was OK. The atmosphere was straight out of Agatha Christy novels. In a way it is a pity that we don’t have the small scale community charity any more. Not only that it helps everyone to feel connected to the welfare of the community, it is also a great way for retired people to give a great contribution parallel to the rat race for survival and the second car.
Victoria’s house is a dream: big, all on one level, extra bedrooms with their own bathroom, back garden with swimming pool and one step behind the back garden is the golf course, also an interesting place for photography.
