I decided to skip the Daintree River boat tour and left for Cape Tributation immediately after breakfast. I crossed the Daintree River by barge, not much traffic at that early time. I stopped at the Rainforest Discovery Center for a self guided tour through the forest, with boardwalks and a lookout tower seeing all the levers of the forest.
From there I continued to Cape Tribulation and visited the beach. Tourist wise it is a busy place. Proceeding north I took the Bloomfield Track, famous because of the protests of the environmental people at the time it was constructed. It is a reasonably maintained dirt track, a few creek crossings which were either dry or had very little water at this time. It is very steep at places, climbing and descending in first gear but so far no need for 4WD or low range.
To visit the Bloomfield falls I took a turn off which turned out to be the wrong track and an inconvenient mistake. Since both map and tourist guide talked about a car park at the end of the track I was taken by surprise by a very steep section, started to slide backwards and ended up with the left hand wheels off the track and the back of the vehicle resting against a tree, preventing it from sliding backwards even further. I could not get the vehicle out of this bog, not even with the Maxtraxs. Luckily someone came down the track, but due to the steep slope he was unable to pull the Troopy back on the road. Although he had a winch on his vehicle, he could not use it because he found out that he had left his winch control box at home.
He then left for a nearby settlement to get help for me and later called me on the UHF that someone would come but that person was at that time not there and it could take a while. This while did not occur at daylight, so I have a involuntary bush camp on a steep slope, so steep there is no chance of preparing a meal, dinner is just a few sandwiches. I will probably sleep in one of the front seats; the sleeping bench is no option with the vehicle on this steep slope.
Degarra is the name of a nearby property of which I do not know if anyone is there. It is too far away to reach on foot anyway.
