In the morning I walked to the upper pools of the Gunlom Falls. It is a steep climb, but very rewarding. I walked about half a kilometer upstream to where the river was not more than a narrow stream and took some good photos. The upper pool was also an excellent place for an early morning swim.
Early morning is the best time to climb the rock since it faces west it is then completely in the shadow. Once the sun shines on the rock it becomes unbelievably hot.
After returning to the Troopy I went back to Katherine for a visit to Katherine Gorge. This gorge is really long. It is also well developed for tourists. I made only a short walk and then treated myself on a helicopter flight over the gorge, a great way to get an overview and quite a different opportunity for photography. Since we flew without doors the photos are not blurred by Perspex at all.
After the flight a found myself a caravan park close to Katherine since the Troopy should be at the service station at eight the following morning.
