Katherine

September 1, 2008 - Katherine, Australia

The Troopy went in for service which took the better part of the day: new shockies and new bearings for both front wheels, new set of fan belts and a lot of checking and greasing. Everything fine for the next rough tracks. Late in the afternoon I fixed an electrical problem with the auxiliary battery.

While waiting for the Troopy at the service station I spoke to a NSW farmer about water management in his area where there is no cattle, only agriculture. It was interesting to hear his side of the story of using water for cotton and rice: they are very productive, about the best in the world just because water is so scarce. His main complaint was that watermanagement is basically done by people from the communities. Government people change to often to be of use for long term plans.
