"I'm gonna shake it to the one..."

March 8, 2008 - Utrecht, Netherlands

I had THE most amazing time last night. The best part is that I only spent 8 euro. The even better part is that I wasn't drunk. Started off the night with a beer or two at Parnassos with Alex, Jackie, Savannah, Mark, and Riley. Went to a squat bar called ACU on Voorstraat, where we met up with Shima and her unit mate. It's definitely a local bar with the right amount of seediness. Unkempt boys with tattoos. There was a free rockabilly show, which was AWESOME. I was just dancing around to the music, having a great time. I also figured out that a pair of glasses can make a guy infinitely more attractive. I think it's the kinda dorky weezer-esque vibe that i dig. I appreciate intelligence. Actually, I now require intelligence.

I was getting tired at ACU, not to mention I was feeling uncomfortable and damp from all of the beer that kept being spilled on me, so I decided to head back to UCU for 80s night at the bar. that was CRAZY. I got there around 2:30 and shit was going off. Unfortunately, I was told I missed Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" but I was there for MJ's "Smooth Criminal" and "Beat It". People were tearing it up on the dance floor. I was jumping around and flailing my arms and kicking around. Especially when "Walking on Sunshine" came on. That song definitely requires lots of kicking. It was great, I just did not give a shit what people thought of me. I was in my groove and there was no stopping it. Everyone was sweating balls and not caring, just dancing. I just drank water here, because I had no desire to drink alcohol. I was having a great time and I wasn't the least bit drunk. Eventually I realized I was pooped, so I bought some peanuts and called it a night, but I'm so glad I went.

I don't think I'm really giving the night justice, but it might have been one of my favorite nights here. I accomplished what I had set out to do, which was namely have a good time without needing to be drunk. I probably drank 6 beers over 6 hours, max.

I think I'm gonna do Berlin and maybe Budapest in April, Ireland first 6 days of May, and Prague at some point maybe after Italy. We shall see, you know I can never settle on one thing for too long.
