All of Thailand in 2 weeks! YOW

January 19, 2008 - Bangkok, Thailand

We did so much in the past 2 weeks. The highlights:

1. We met Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. How we got to do that, I'm still not quite sure. My professor is friends with the highest ranking commoner in Thailand (how that happened, once again, not sure). So the highest ranking commoner is best friends of the queen. She got us invited to the King's sister's funeral, which we woke up at 4:45 am to attend. It was a pretty big deal, and a chance of a lifetime. I still can't believe I met royalty. I also met the deceased Princess' grandson (over 6 feet tall, about 25 years old, and an architect!). That was the most amazing part of the trip.

2. We got to see the King of Thailand's projects, and all he has done for the people of Thailand. He has brought in a dairy industry and has improved Thailand's nutrition with an increase of milk production! For areas that do not have refrigeration he made milk tablet that are like candy, but that provide the same vitamins that milk does! SO COOl! He has also found several alternate energy resources. I think the US can learn a lot from King Rama the ninth of Thailand!

3. We rode elephants! We saw an elephant show in Chaing Mai, where we saw an elephant painting a picture! And we got to ride elephants through the forest for like an hour. That was a blast. We also did an ox cart ride and a bamboo raft ride after that. Day 13 was definetly a favorite among everyone!

4. I'm sure there are more. I filled a whole journal with everything we did, but it is currently in Waco being graded by my professor.
