Ash Wednesday

February 6, 2008 - London, United Kingdom

ITS ASH WEDNESDAY... and as a Baptist, that has never really meant much to me. My church never held an Ash Wednesday service. Since I am in London (and happen to be required to attend a few different styles of church services) I decided to go to an Ash Wednesday service at Westminister Abbey this afternoon.

Yeah, I can't believe it either! I went to an Ash Wednesday Communion Service at WESTMINSTER ABBEY...  still mind blowing!

It was a spoken liturgical service which is different, but it was great. I had never had communion where a priest (is is a priest even though he isn't Catholic?) blessed the bread and wine and bowed to it before serving it. And it was the first time for me to ever have ashes put on my head or drink out of the same communion cup as everyone else, or even have wine in a service! So many new experiences! haha

Last night we went to the play "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde. I love Oscar Wilde and his clever wit! I had read the play in high school, but I had forgotten about some of the details, so many parts of it were still surprising. As the actors said the lines, I remember reading them in class and discussing them. Its great feeling like I actually learned something in high school.

Classes have officially started, and if I'm not careful I'll soon be behind. Why, oh why are they making me take classes? I mean, I'M IN LONDON! haha, there is just too much to do. (Don't worry Mom and Dad, I'm studying a lot, and I go to my classes, I'm only kidding).
