"Bushies"

February 28, 2007 - Panamá, Panama

"Bushies..." So this is what Panamanians call Americans now because we support/supported the war in Iraq...wtf! They say we followed Bush blindly into certain chaos, I'll let everyone form their own decision on this topic...

Anyway, we are in a hostal in Panama City right now and getting ready to make the jump from Central America to South America with a 5:00am flight from Panama City to Quito, Ecuador. Panama has been great. We started in Bocas Del Toro, this little set of islands on the Carib. coast and came in right at the end of their Carnival. Good times with the locals and tourists alike, everyone one was really in the mood for celebration, form your own conclusion. We than took a couple buses to a little town up in the mountains by the name of Boquete. This town is in the shadows of the only volcano in Panama which is also the highest point in all of Panama. So we decided we needed to climb it...11 miles up later and who knows how long, we were sitting on the highest point in all of Pamana just in time to watch the sun sink into clouds...it was absolutly amazing! (see pics and you'll know what I mean) We camped at the summit for the night and headed down the next morning. From there we moved to Panama City to take in the sights of the capital. Last time I was in Panama City, in my days of playing war, I really didn't take in any sights except for the jungles and bars, so this time I decided to actually take in the culture of Panama City. A lot has changed in Panama since the U.S. Military pulled out on the eve of 2000, this basically means that there aren't drunken U.S. military personal running around the whole city causing as much touble as possible. So, we went and saw the canal
(pretty amazing system, espically for being finished in 1914), some of the ruins of the orignal settlement, the historic section of the city and meaningful things like that. Would have to say my time in Panama was a lot more enlighting and educational than my last, maybe not quite as much fun, but defintely more productive.

This is going to conclude my time in Central America! Overall every country we visited was fantastic and we made the most out of our time here. 2 hot showers (many cold, don´t worry), one case of sickness and a lot of good stories. Really looking forward to jumping on the plane tomorrow and heading south for new adventures, who knows what will happen down there...

So this where I will leave everyone. As always too many details to really get into, all of those will have to come upon my return. Hope everyone is well and enjoys the pictures I will soon post. Keep sending your comments on the journals and pictures, love to hear what everyone has to say

Take care....
