Preu, Bolivia & Chile

August 2, 2008 - Santiago, Chile

After Kathryn had to head home I was abondoned in Lima all on me lonesome :( Still i managed to survive Ivor 001-550.jpgand caught a flight  to Puno the next day and spent 2 days doin very little really before i met up with Feargal, Danielle, Claire and Carol and got a bus accross the border to Bolivia. From there we headed for La Paz for a week. When we got there all we could think of doing was sampelling the local brews a little too much! Way too much beer + the altitude = the worst hangover ive had in years!!! So day 2 was a bit of a right off until about 10 when we decided that more beer would sort all of our problems out.

The next day everyone headed off to cycle down the death road, i decided that my self dIvor 010-550.jpgiagnosed virtigo should rule me well out of that one, and a very wise decision it was too, apparently 20 people a year are killed doing it!!! So i wandered off into town to have a look. There was some kind of march on, but then there was some kind of march on every day i was there!! After watching that for a while i headed off to the witches market and tried to resist investing in a bag of armadillos and dried lama feutous´s!!! Dont ask me why they sell them or what use anyone could have for them and most other things that are for sale there. After wandering around feeling like a giant for the afternoon (everyone is about 5 foot here) i headed back to the hostel to find nobody had died on the cycle and so to celebrate we went to the pub!!!

When SunIvor 018-550.jpgday finally arrived it was time for something i was looking forward to ever since i caught wind of it, "midget wrestelling".. Where else in the world could you pay to see midgets wrestle! I couldnt wait. We got a bus up into the mountains and were surrounded by extreamly loud and enthusistic locals, one old woman practically started a riot!!! Apart from the fact that not one bloody midget turned up it was pretty good, a kind of really really cheap WWF knock off!!!

Clare 035-550.jpgAfter 5 nights in La Paz i caught the bus down to Copacabana, a little town just on the peruvian border on the shore of Lake Titicaca. Again not a great deal to do there so i headed back to Puno to catch my flight back to Lima! So had another 2 nights in Puno and met up with Barry & Sionaid (see told ya id give you a mention). On my last day there i headed out to the floating islands which was good, eating the reeds they make the islands from however was a very bad idea!!!!!! So from there it was back to Lima to meet Kathryn (minus her luggage) off her flight from Engerland.

We had 1 and a bit nights back in "lovely" Lima before getting the fastest taxi in the world to the airport (thank god i never have to get into a peruvian car again) and got a flight to Santiago which contrary to reports from a certain Tipp man is actually quite nice, well a nice change from Peru anyway, and the likelyhood of being shot is substantely less then it is in Lima which is always good! On our first night we went out for a few drinkies in Bellavista where were staying. We ended upin a Cuban bar with dodgy cuban music and Mojitos!!!!

DSCF7596-550.jpgWe then decided that skiing would be a good way to spend a day here so we paid our money and off we went. Now, having never skied before i assumed that sliding down a hill on 2 bits of wood would be childs play... Oh how wrong i was (see video section for evidance).  We managed to stay out of traction with all our limbs intact despite me falling on my arse before we had even started our lesson!! A good day was had by all, well by me anyway!

The only other thing to do here really (apart from going to see Batman again) is to drink, Clare 018-550.jpgsame as alot of the places i seem to visit, maybe thats just me though!!! Anyway, we booked ourselves onto a vineyard tour to Concho Y Toro which im told is quite famous. It was pretty good for 6 quid... So thats it pretty much up to date, were just waiting to fly to New Zealand tonight and loose 2 days of our lives crossing the international date line!!
