When in Perugia..... (The end of week one)

January 11, 2008 - Perugia, Italy

Hey There Everyone,

So I am finally feeling settled here and beginning to find my way around pretty easily! lol If I have not already mentioned by apartment is in a great location it is like a 5 minute walk from the Piazza Novembre which is the major center and gathering place in this city. We are right near pretty much everything and I cannot complain about the apartment or it's location at all! lol We have had some guests over for dinner etc. and they just cannot get over our place. We have only eaten out once and have been cooking in alot which saves money and my roomates are all good cooks which helps. They made eggplant parmesan one night and me and my roommate Kara made dinner last night chicken cutlets a broccli dish and fetuccini alfreddo, everything was soo good! They have a basic grocery store here that is sort of American and then they have this other great one called Parma that sells everything fresh right there, we love it!

In terms of praticing the language and stuff I definately have been! Three out of my eight roommates have had some study with the language and this week our only class was Italian! It was insane, we spent three hours every morning doing Italian and then like two more in the afternoon. Since I am in a more advanced class then some of my roommates who are in elementary we spoke all Italian all the time. It has really given me a better handle on the language but I am not going to lie I am glad the week is over! haha Today (Friday) we culminated the week by going into the city in groups and each group had to go to certain stores and buy food and just speak in Italian we then had to go back and report on it and eat all the food! haha  My group was sent to a Caffe' and the Italian barista had an attitude she did not like us Americans! So although I am extremely happy the week is over I did learn and become refreshed on alot of information.

Lastly it seems alot of people are getting sick, our bodies are all trying to adjust to the cold apartments as Italian law only allows you to keep your heat on for about six hours during the day. Most everyone I am meeting or have been hanging out with is losng there voice which is weird? But in time I know I will get used to the cold. Our landlord is awesome and our comforters all stank, I think guys lived there before us and we told him about it and recieved  all new much warmer comforters! haha hat was pretty cool. This weekend we are planning on stayng here going to some museums and doing an tour on Sunday which will show us the hidden jewels of the city or as they like th call it the "nooks and crannies tour". Well thats all for now, cioa!
