Water week

July 9, 2006 - Mission Beach, Australia

A short update from Down Under, because my bus to Cairns will leave in about 10 minutes. The Whitsundays were beautiful. Relaxing, snorkelling, exploring Whitehaven Beach and chilling on a catamaran on the ocean with a good crowd of people is a very cool way to spend 2 days.

Back in Airlie Beach Ramona and myself bought a tent, and we've been camping every since. The next stop was Magnetic Island, which is very relaxing and very beautiful and full of all sorts of animals: rock wallabis, possums, peacocks, koalas, . We spent about 4 days there, of which I spent most of my time diving. I now have my advanced certification!! :D

The diving course included 2 dives at the SS Yongala, sunk in 1911, which is one of the best wreck dives in the world. The place is just teeming with life and those were definitely some of the best dives I've ever done! (I also uploaded some underwater pics.) How am I ever gonna top those dives?!? ;)

Now we're off to Cairns, where we'll rent a car for a couple of days and head up to Cape Tribulation. On the 14th we fly to Alice Springs to see The Rock (Uluru). Gotta fly, talk to you later!

Man these underwater pics are absolutely stunning! Good thing you got yourself a tent. It's not a De Waard I guess?

Thanks, although I must admit that I didn't take those pics ;). The tent stands like a vaatdoek but hey it keeps the rain out! :D
