From Adelaide I made a 24-hour train journey to Sydney. Although I didn't get much sleep (it's quite an art to find a position on a train chair that allows you to really sleep, you know), the trip was very nice nevertheless. The landscape was beautiful - I even spotted some emus and kangaroos! - and it was a fun opportunity to meet some outback ozzies.
Upon arrival in Sydney I took the first train out to Katoomba, which is a lovely little town located in The Blue Mountains. Although quite cold, the views there are stunning; the area is nothing but nature and make a perfect destination for a couple days of hiking. Some highlights: the Three Sisters rock formation, Wentworth Falls, the views over the endless valleys, the kakatus and parrots, the numerous creeks and rivers, and the Undercliff Track. The hostel I stayed at in Katoomba, The Flying Fox, was very relaxed as well. Logfires at night, a glass of red wine, nice people, a guitar... good times, good times.
I'm a bit sad to be back in Sydney again, as returning here makes it finally dawn on me that the end of my trip is very very nigh. I really wish I had more time to stay downunder, but my student visa is about to expire; tomorrow afternoon I fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Of course I'm looking forward to setting my first steps in South-East Asia, but I surely am going to miss this amazing continent...
Australia, I will be back!
