Firenze (aka Florence)

May 29, 2008 - Florence, Italy

Okay so it has been a little while since I have written in this, but I have definantly slowed down the travelling since the last entry. After the last entry I left I had one more day left in Naples so I just ended up going to Pompeii and missing some of the other spots to see around there. It was killer hot at Pompeii where there was no shade and they had run out of water in the restaurants. Needless to say, I enjoyed Pompeii but was more than ready to go back to the hostel and enjoy the shade. That evening I got the oppurtunity to go out for some pizza in the town, because Naples is the founders to this wonderful food!

After spending 3 wks always on the run I decided to settle it down once I reached Florence. I had only booked 2 nights in Florence, which somehow grew into 4 nights at the hostel. The first day I got to the hostel in Florence ended up being a good one because as soon as I got there the manager was giving me and everyone else around free beer. We ended up getting an amazing meal made for us and then we went and discovered an Irish pub in Florence by the Duomo. Here we hung out had some beer and made some friends with some Italians that were really sweet and just wanted to hang out and buy me and the other girl flowers (teehee). Anyways the next day was my discovering Florence day which I ended up having a group from the hostel to go with. We saw the duomo, the outside of the Ufizzi, the ponte vecchio, and then discovered the amazing parks by the palace. They were insanely huge and seemed even bigger with the weather being around 30 degrees. From one of the parks we made an amazing discovery - that there was a concert going on at the the piazza michelangelo. We decided to go and check out this show, which ended up making us go up and down all these crazy hills to get there. Right as we were climbing up the last hilll the music stopped and everyone that was up there started leaving. Turns out is was for TRL and the concert was over at 630 in the evening. :( Anyways, we finally went back to the hostel, where on the way we made friends with a pizzeria and got over 2 pizzas for only 10 euros. mmmmmm pizza feast and beer.

So the next day was a calm day and all that I did was go to Pisa with three of the people I had been with the day before to see the leaning tower. It was awesome to see and I got some geeky pictures of me holding up the tower, leaning against the tower and even punching the tower. Haha. I'm a cool tourist. :D

After discovering the greatness of day trips on the train I decided to do another to the medieval town of Lucca, which was in the north of Tuscany. This town was really amazing because alot of it was unchanged, with a wall around the city and some huge beautiful churches hiding in it. It was appreciate to fully enjoy the riches of this town because it was raining so hard that we had to keep on going into alleys or cafes to escape it until it calmed down. It was still a cool town to check out. That evening at the hostel we managed to get the best meal yet cuz this Italian guy that is a chef made us some real Ragu and Alfredo sauce. Mmmmm. I could eat it all day. I also got the oppurunity to meet some awesome Aussies whom I will hopefully be going on a road trip with next week to see Switzerland and Austria and anywhere else that suits our fancy. Anyways, I am about to run off to Venice where I get to stay in a camping village (staying in a tent that has beds inside it) that is supposed to have a pool and everything too! Anyways I hope that all is going well for you guys! I love hearing your responses and I love being able to hear what is going on in your lives!! Anyways hope to hear from you guys soon!!

Side note: Linda and I decided to go our seperate ways because I wanted to be able to spend more time in Italy and she wanted to continue on to Spain.

I totally wish I had more time in Europe now. I always hear how awesome Florence is and if I have time I will definitely check it out. I forget if you said if you went to Prague or not, but if you have not, it is one city I have been told you have to see. As for Switzerland, definitely go there; however, if you are in Geneva, that will probably be the most expensive city you will ever visit, but totally worth it for the chocolates! Anyways hope all continues to go well!

wow.. your trip sounds amazing! You are really making the most of every moment there - you would be a riot to travel with. wave to the alps for me.. and if you go back to Germany I can set you up for a night with my sister's family if you like - might be a nice change after the hostels. ;)

Here, things are quite busy... I had a nightmare last night about my wedding coming and not having anything planned..haha so now I'm super motivated to crack down on the planning. I have an invite for you - where should I send it? (maybe you'll get homesick and come...ha ha yeah right;)

anyway keep having fun! I miss ya. *hugs*
