New Years Resolution: write blog!!!!
January 15, 2008 - Savusavu, Fiji
Hello all, wishing you all a very happy new year! We're now in Fiji and enjoying the laid back and very hospitable atmosphere. We arrived in Suva (the capital) on the 29th, which meant we were here for New Years Eve...whihch was mint. Big party on the street and all sorts. On New Years Day we went to a national park where there is a huge waterfall with lots of fresh water pools. There we met some really sound locals who invited u8s back to their village for food, Kava (a Fijian narcotic drink made from the dried roots of some mad plant) and some dancing! After Suva we went to a small island called 'Tavueni' it was what you imagine Fiji to be like...beautiful unspoilt beaches and loads of local fruit etc. Here we went snorkeling, for the first time, to have a look at the coral,...which was nice. It was a really chilled out few days. Now we are in Savusavu on the second biggest island staying with a local couple. We have been staying with them for around five days so far and it has been braw! (Mum, they have been feeding us like crazy and making sure we're not staying up too late). The weather has gone a bit mad and there is a hurricane knocking about...Wahay! So we're not sure what we're doing next as the weather is being very unpredictable. We are aware that we have not updated this bad boy in quite a while...for this we are sorry. I'll try and give you a wee run down of what we've been up too since we last updated...Well, when we were in Vietnam (Hoi An) there was a hefty hefty flood (there should be some photos on the blog somewhere) apparently the worst in about 10 years! Mental! After Vietnam we went to Cambodia. It was definatley one of our favourite places so far. The people were amazing, the landscape beautiful and steeped in history old and new. We went to S21 and the killing fields which was really moving and afterwards to Ankor Wat which was magical, please check the photos of Cambodia because Ankor Wat is just spell binding! Like I said the people were just amazing really friendly and they have a brilliant sense of humour.I'm running out of time on the internet so I'll give you wee run down on Australia next time. Thanks for reading, we're having an amazing time.Loads of love, Jay and Fi
