first days...

January 9, 2009 - Valencia, Spain

hola familia!!!

first of all, thanks to everyone for all your good wishes. as you can see by the photos, the apartment and veiw is to die for! the part of town were staying in is the old town center called "carmen".  the streets are very tiny, cars are literraly driving where you walk. also, there are valencian oranges growing on all the trees around the town.

when we got in last evening i got my first taste of spanish cuisine. the program treated us to a full course meal. green olives, flatbread, salad, two different kinds of risotto (mom, urs is better), paperthin anchovy and caper pizza, and pasta. wow...

after that, a couple of people headed over to a traditional irish pub and everyone in the program got a chance to meet each other and hang out. a little hacky-sack with the fresh picked oranges and then off to bed.

this morning we got up at ten for a walking tour of valencia that had us racing through everywhere, only being allowed to look in because there was so much to see. we saw the outsides of the central market, several plazas, places to play futbol, the swimming pool, police station, and the tram station, along with many great places to eat. it was a whirlwind!

after that we got our second orientation that told us about going out in spain. the diagram looked something like this:

22hr        dinner party/ go out to eat

.5hr         club/ pub

3.3hr       discoteca

7.5hr       after pub

11hr        lunch

dont worry mom...its only on sat! =)

anyways needless to say im exauhsted. a nap is in order since ive been fighting the fact that i actually have jetlag...

love u all!

Hi Jen, your mom's friend Linda here. I spent several weeks in Spain when I was in high school and am reliving the memories through your trip. Enjoy some sangria for me! Don't miss the Alhambra if you get a chance to travel. The Spaniards will love your blond hair! Enjoy and keep the great pics coming...

Hi Jen

I am SOO jealous! This looks totally amazing. I wish I were there. I can smell the sweetness of those oranges. Claire is talking about wanting to study abroad - I know she would love the funky art for sure!

Enjoy every minute!!! Stay safe...

Love you lots

Hi Jen:
Heard from you mom about this blog of yours and as it is the time of year that we spend a few days in Key West, we are also enjoying some great fun away from home.
We've never done a blog or visited one so you are our first.
Have fun and take a lot of photos.
