Hey Guys,
I know it's been a while since making an entry, but there hasn't really been much to report for the last few weeks. Since buying a snowboard we've been waiting for a decent amount of snow on the mountain, not only so we can start boarding, but so I can start getting some regular hours at work (and regular money). Mel has been working steadily for a while now, but my job requires plenty of snow and it's only really been in the last week that I've been getting plenty of hours.
We had two or three days of heavy snow last week and the mountain opened up it's ski/board runs to the public last weekend. Then as soon as the weekend was over the temperature increased and there was heaps of rain. This means that much of the snow was washed away. So as the title of this entry suggests, it's a case of two steps forward, one step back at the moment.
Melanie managed to get out there and have her first snowboarding experience. From the sounds of it she had a blast (although she had a bit of a sore bum afterwards). I just happened to be working around the time that we had the good snow, so I missed out. I'm not worried, there is still plenty of winter to come!
I'm working in Mountain Maintenance now, which is a nice way of saying that I shovel snow. Well that's not quite right, I'm a jack-of-all-trades so to speak. If any odd jobs come up I get them, but there is a hell of a lot of shoveling involved. I also act as back-up transport, so I'm going to be learning how to drive a snowcat (sort of a tank/ute hybrid I guess). I got to drive it for the first time last night and it was pretty fun, and I managed to run over somebody's mobile phone in the process!
Oh yeah, I also got to hoon around on a snowmobile the other night (snow jet-ski thingy). The guy I was working with said he could hear me laughing maniacally from about 70 metres away, so I must have been having fun.
Well that's about it from me for now. There are no new pics at the moment, I promise to get some of Mel and I when we hit the slopes (and any subsequent broken bones that may occur).
Catch y'all on the flipside!
