Bowen Island and Various Happenings

G'Day All, No Bald Squid Men Eating Hand Rails Allowed

Yes I know it's been a while, but I'm blogging now so stop complaining. Things have been humming along nicely lately. Work is work, still enjoyable and cold. The snow has eased up a bit lately and the mountain has turned a bit icy. I've been keeping up the snowboarding but not as often as I should. It's still all good fun, maybe I'm just getting a bit picky about snow/weather conditions.

Yesterday Mel and I decided to go for a bit of an exploration to Bowen Island. It was pretty easy to get to, just a couple of buses and a ferry and we were there. It's a nice little place, I don't know if you can tell from the photos but it looks like the sort of sleepy community a giant squid would attack at the start of a B-monster movie. You know what I mean.

When I stepped off the ferry I was hoping to be greeted by some grizzled old sea dog, pipe in mouth, two peg legs warning of the dangers that await us on the island. It was not to be. It's more of a place where rich middle aged semi-retired people move to pursue their career as an "artist". Maybe that's something to be more worried about than giant squids!

Mel's Triumph! We had a meander around, checking out the local sites. Mel found a pretty sweet mint condition old Triumph motorbike. I'm not really into bikes myself but could appreciate the work that had gone into restoring it. We then parked ourselves in a diner which looked pretty crusty from the outside, but was straight out of the '50's on the inside. We had a good feed, a couple of beers and had a chat about our travel plans.

Speaking of which we've started the ball rolling with organising the next phase of our world tour. I won't go into specifics too much but we'll be heading from Vancouver to Calgary, then checking out the Canadian Rockies nearby. After that it will be onto the U.K. with a couple of days in London then Edinburgh where we hope to find some work. We're also hoping to take a little trip down to Egypt at some stage, we're still working out the details but we're getting pretty excited about it all.

Okay, that's about enough for now. There are new photos and a video available. Some from our Bowen Island trip, and a few that I found on the memory card from a Christmas Dinner cruise we went on last month. Enjoy.

Take it easy y'all!
