Brian's Farewell

April 24, 2008 - Balad, Iraq

I hope everyone is enjoying the journal entries along with the pictures I added earlier this week. I’m hoping to get out and take some more pictures in the next couple of days depending on the weather. As many of you have noticed I did shave my head, but only because of the 100 degree heat that we are experiencing on a daily basis. It will grow back so don’t freak out, I’m not!

Before moving forward I need to go back and tell you about another prank that Brian and Kelly played on me. Not sure if I’d call it a prank but they found it humorous and I found it childs play. I apologize if this is gross, but needs to be told. So after eating dinner I needed to use the facilities, but let me first state that the only facilities for us to use around our warehouse are Portables. With that I headed off to take care of business and not but after a couple minutes the Portable was under attack….. not rocket attack, but ROCK attacks from Brian and Kelly… Yes they were hurling rocks and enjoying it, but I was not frightened like they thought I might be. After having their fun or becoming bored they finally stopped throwing rocks. Upon my return to the office they acted as if nothing happened until they couldn’t hold it anymore and began belting with laughter. I wonder if they will ever get tired of trying to play pranks on me. I will admit they got me with the checking under the Hummer, but this prank was complete failure.

The past couple of days have been somewhat interesting as its very difficult to sleep at times with F-16s flying all thru the night and waking you up from time to time. I’m slowly getting use to the noise, but can’t I just get some sleep. As many of you know, I love to sleep. Tuesday was not a fun day as I woke up to the power being out in the housing area where I reside. After a long day of work, I headed back to my room to shower only to find out that my area seemed to be the only area where power hadn’t been restored yet. So I showered and tried my hardest to fall asleep, but it was so warm that all I did was toss and turn with a couple hours of sleep. I finally got power back around 7:30 in the morning on Wednesday which was nice, but could only get another hour or so of sleep as I needed to head in to work. I definitely don’t want to experience that again as that was not fun. Lets hope for no power outages for the remainder of my stay….!

So we got some bad news today, we no longer have a vehicle. The hummer was taken away from us as it was needed for military use. Hopefully we will have a vehicle soon because I’m not sure if I can walk in this heat, its HOT outside! Kelly and I are keeping our fingers crossed that we can have a replacement truck within a week. So much for wearing a hard hat, I miss that thing already!

So Brian just left or is hoping to leave tonight based on availability. Stephanie your man is on his way home, so have fun and see you all in 6 months. Although I know he’s ready to leave, I wish he’d stay for a couple more weeks as its been fun hanging out and catching up with him. Having him around has definitely made my transition much easier, but at least I still have Kelly and his sense of humor for a little over a month, HAHAHAHAHAHA! Brian and Kelly have done a tremendous job in getting everything established here for me, making my job and those who replace them much easier. So thank you both, that is why you’re PATRIOTS!

That is all I have for this time. All I know is the NFL draft is this weekend and I’m hoping the Redskins can make some much needed improvements thru the draft. Enjoy the upcoming weekend and enjoy!

Justin you better get a cap for that shaved head. You don't want to cook that head. The Gator picture has spread all over the country. It's getting rave reviews!! Advil PM work great when it's 125 degrees.

Justin, I didn't know you were a Redskin fan! We eat, breathe and sleep Redskins...In fact we are still in mourning over Joe Gibbs' retirement!
Gary's right, get you a big, old floppy hat and try to pretend you are at the beach.....minus the girls of course!
