Thanksgiving

November 20, 2007 - Ilan, Taiwan

Thanksgiving is in a couple of days.  This is the first major holiday that I will be away from the states.  Ever.  For the past 22 years, I have spent Thanksgiving with my family.  It was just today that I realized that I have a 22 year-old tradition.  This is the first year that my tradition is broken.  Our changes some from year to year, morphing into this huge event lasting all weekend.  But there was always a few things that I could count on- family, friends, food, football.

This year:
Family- I am soooo thankful for skype bc I can talk to my family on the other side of the world!

Friends- Make new friends but keep the old.  My new friends and I are having a thanksgiving dinner on Sunday.

Food- Of course, on Sunday, I am making sweet potatoes.  Quite possibly the most delicious food, and could I call myself a Hodges if I didn't bring sweet potatoes to the thanksgiving feast?

Football- ESPN.com, thank you.  I will be watching little dots of noles charging across the screen as they push through the smaller, weaker blue and orange dots.

As for now, its probably best if I stop thinking about what I am missing out on... But I can never forget whom I am missing.  Love y'all.

Waaaaaaaaaaaa... we're missing you too. Allen's making his coconut cake. I've got my carrot cake in the oven... You're mom's busy making sweet potatoes (what a Hodges!), and Megan's working on her science fair project... (she's definitely related to you!!) We're expecting G-ma, Am & Steve tomorrow. We plan to skype you around 5 or 6ish which would be 6 or 7ish Thursday AM for you. Let me know if you get this and that's ok. Love ya lots, Mare

I'm in Huntsville and will also miss being with the Geddings family. It is so good however to see all the AU stickers in Hunsville. Andrew and I will be going to Jay's in-laws then up to see mother and Candy. Jay's neighbor, Loretta, is eating in the afternoon, so Andrew and I my double dip. I mean what else is there to do after a 2 hour ride from Auburn to Atlanta.

Hi Katie,
How was your Christmas? We had our family, Mom and U.Bob, and your Mom and brothers over last night. We played a little Scene It, just to get a big of conversation going. Dean cooked Lamb, muy deliciouso!! We are now planning for his 50th birthday party this Sat. It's a Jimmy Buffet theme, it's 5 o'clock somewhere.... Wish you could be there with us. We're still considering the idea of a visit. I'll let you know as the plans progress. I love reading your blog and talking to you the other night. Sounds like the girls are keeping in touch. I am so happy you are able to experience this amazing adventure. It will be the kind of thing you will never regret and it truly gives you a different perspective on life. I remember living in the Azores was that type of experience for me. But I think you are very brave to be open to this new experience. We can all live vicariously through you. Enjoy. By the way, thanks so very much for the beautiful Christmas card and the bookmarker. It's really nice and so very thoughtful of you. I love you Katie.
Take Care,
Aunt Barbara
