I am in Barcelona!

April 26, 2008 - Barcelona, Spain

So I am finally here in Barcelona....what a trip it has been so far! Let just saw it has been a crazy couple of days! I was off to an early start (4:30am!!!) on Friday to SFO and then off to Newark, NJ and then to Barcelona! Everthing was going so smooth....I figured nothing could go wrong....well I was wrong!....so after traveling for over 13 hours we finally arrive to our destination.  And when my grandmother and I get to the baggage claim, my suitcase never came out! I was freaking out....not only I am in a foreign country, I have no luggage.  So I tried my best to speak Spanish and figure things out....and of course they don´t speak English...so it was a little stressful.  I was finally able to speak to someone from the airline and give them my information.  Definitey my worst nightmare! Thankfully I have my mom and sister to borry clothes from....but once I got into the city from the airport I was so excited! Barcelona is pretty incredible....the buildings, the language, the people....everything is I expected!

We arrived to our hotel and it is so cute! It is like we are basically staying in a house....it is off this small street in a cute quite neighborhood....I love it.  And there is all local artists work featured there! There is a kitchen downtairs, a  house cat....it is wonderful!

I am just so thankful that I am able to experience this trip with my family! I can´t wait for what is to come!  We decided to visit the famous Parc Guell...which is done by the famous Gaudi.  It is a park that you can sit and enjoy the city with a great view of the beach and the city! And all over are this buildings and figures fied with his art.  Once I upload pictures you will see! ( I am downstairs at an internet cafe right now, and I am not sure how long it will take!) Everything was very unique and different, with lots of colors and mosaic like.  It was a great way to start out my first day here in Barcelona after a long crazy morning.....

We then went back to our hotel to freshen up before dinner with my family and some of the girls whom my sister Noelle studied abroad with.  It was great to meet them and their family.  We ate at this really  nice restaurant along the beach with amazing views.  I had to really adjust myself because here in Spain they do not eat dinner until after 9pm.  The place we went to actually reminded me of a place in SF called The Supper Club, where inside are these couches and beds that everyone sat around and ate dinner with crazy lights and tables....very modern and hip.  But the food was great....not very traditional, they had a lot of Asia dishes!  It was a blast....we didn´t even get home until after midnight! My grandmothers was falling asleep at the table! But they definitely enjoy there long meals here in Spain!

Today (Sunday) we work up somewhat early, and met up with another family to take a tour lead by one of my sister´s advisor from her study abraod program.  It was so incredible! Talk about so much history and information....wow....it was awesome! We took a walking tour of the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona! It was great because we got to see parts of buildings that have been there since the Roman time! I can´t even describe it! And Jordan our guide is so knowledge about the history and the story behind everthing! We saw a Roman Cementary right in the middle of a street, the famous 4Gats restaurant where Picasso used to go and sketch on napkins there, beautiful Cathedrals, and the famous Royal Square where Christopher Columbus was greeted welcomed in Spain for discovering the New World! Just to name a few! I can´t wait to go back and look back at my books of Barcelona and read all about what I just saw!

We just finished eating at a great tapas place and had tradional Spanish food....It was actually quite tasty!  I definitely tried everything....cured ham, cheese in oil, sausage, and a stuffed pepper with spicy tuna....and many more! The also drink beer with lemonade here, which I tried a little sip of! Trust me ....after all those tapas....I am stuffed.  so now I am here....taking a siesta break.....not sure what is in store for later, but I am sure it will be great! Miss you all....and until next time....adios!
