Last Couple Days in Barcelona....

April 29, 2008 - Barcelona, Spain

So....I finally got my luggage later Sunday evening....what a relief....I feel so much better! Monday I got to see my sister´s school where she went.  It was beautiful! The buildings here are so amazing, I can´t even describe it! So much history! There is a famous hospital right next door where we stopped by to take some pictures.  The history behind it is pretty interesting....there are many different building for the patients for each different disease, and then an underground tunnel set up to transport the patients so they wouldn´t infect each other! It was pretty cool.

Next stop is the famous Sagrada Familia (temple/church) done again by the known architect Gaudi. It was unbelieveable! It is only 50% complete because he died in 1926, and they been working on it ever since in honor of him.  Barcelona is hoping to complete it by 2026...marking 100yrs after his death.  He has been buildings and houses here in Barcelona that are just so unique.  He was very famous for his Modernism work.

I will say though, the Spaniards here know how to take a siesta! By the time were done we were starving and everything was closed! Haha! Luckily we just stopped by the local market to get meat and cheeses.  After that my family went to help my sister pack all her stuff together and clean out here apartment! I can´t believe the stuff she has! oh well.....I decided to walk down from our hotel with my grandmother to one of the largest parks in Barcelona, Ciutadella Parque.  I was just nice to walk around and take in everything.  Beautiful flowers, fountains, and buildings...and more! I definitely needed a walk t relax and enjoy the outside.

Now it is my last day (Tuesday) and we definitely woke up early so we could get to La Boqueria Market.  It has the freshest fruit, meats and seafood you can find.  It is so huge I can´t even describe it.  We all got breakfast there and just took pictures of everything it has to offer! It is located along the famous Las Ramblas. ... a famous street with many shops, street performers, flowers and even live animals to sell! It is crazy!

We also visited some other famous homes of Gaudi that are jut so unique.  He uses a lot of mosiac work and shapes from the earth.  I will definitely try to upload some pictures soon so you guys can see what I am talking about! The rest of the day was just walking around different neighborhoods and the Gothic Quarter, and doing a little shopping! But of course! :=)

Now I we are off soon to hop on a overnight train to Granada, Spain....but I will say I will definitely come back here! There is so much more to see and experience!
