In transit - New Zealand

January 27, 2008 - Auckland, New Zealand

There were a few tears at the airport this morning, but considering my reputation for airport farewells, it all went pretty well. Only a slight mishap with the alarm clock - note to self, it helps to have the volume up so you can hear it waking you up. It was a mad rush over the last week to try to get everything done before I left Yea; relocating and setting off on a big trip should not be combined if at all possible. Nearly all my to do list has now been crossed off and the rest will just have to wait (or Mum has kindly volunteered to do it for me).

It was the first of two trips to the international departures for Mum and Dad this week; Steve and his girlfriend Georgia leave for Manilla on Thursday. Georgia will be taking up a new PR role with her company and they will be based in Manilla for the next two years. So it will be a bit quiet around Yea, although they are expecting a few baby alpacas soon.

I've just watched Adam Gilchrist walk off the Adelaide Oval as a batsman for the last time in test cricket, needless to say, the bar is the place to be in transit. Some guy on the loud speaker seems to have got out of bed on the wrong side this morning, his calls for late passengers could be something taken straight out of the Late Show or Chaser, but it has been keeping me amused. Ten minutes until boarding time; the flight from Auckland to San Francisco should take about 12 hours or so. I spent the flight from Melbourne to Auckland watching the Jane Austin Book Club, which I had read a couple of years ago and didn't know had been made into a movie... not bad for a chick flick. Hopefully I'll get a seat not too close to any babies and I can get a bit of sleep. Really wish I'd called Jo one more time, hopefully it won't be too hard to find her at the San Francisco airport.
