Daejeon

March 2, 2008 - Taejon, South Korea

Our time in Seoul finally came to an end and Friday we packed up and moved about 2 1/2 hours south to Daejeon. We had a great last few days in Seoul with some great audiences and some fun nights out in Itaewon, the area Westerners frequent.

As expected, the last night concluded with one last stop to our local mandoo house. Right down the street from our hotel was this amazing little mandoo (Korean dumplings) restaurant. The ladies who worked at night got to know us very well so we couldn't leave Seoul without saying goodbye. The cook even helps me practice my Korean I'm learning, so I have a particular soft spot in my heart for her. As we were eating she even brought me over some extra food to try... and she started calling me "Oh-nee" which is a familiar term to use for a Korean woman you are friends with, like sister. That was a nice feeling.

Daejeon is... strange to come to after living in Seoul at the Plaza Hotel for 2 months. There isn't much to do and the hotel is quite odd, so we are definitely reminded that we're in Asia. We're only here for 10 days before moving on to Pusan, so as always we will make the most of it.

Yesterday was an exciting day because I booked my flight home!! It was funny how much more real everything became after that. April 7th I'm flying to Virginia to see my parents for a bit and then April 13th I will be back in New York City!! I'm so excited!
