My friend Sabrina (a passionate surfer and lawyer) invited my to stay with her in Orange County during my short visit to Southern California/LA. Sabrina turned out to be the perfect tour guide & my big sister in California
. She introduced me to the real Californian lifestyle – surfing, spending hours in the car and showing me the great places for Mexican food! And I had my first lesson directly when she pick me up from the airport, we went for a 'quick' drive from Venice Beach up to Malibu, well and then seven hours later and after a quick stopover, where I've met Wanda her nice art surf friend, we finally arrived in San Juan Capistrano. Next lesson, next day: instead of breakfast we had an early lunch – my first 'real' Mexican food and Imperial beer from Costa Rica, a great combo! Afterwards in preparation for the following big day we've done some shopping (ok Sabrina I won't mention the number of shops we went
) We and (her friendly surfer friends) spent the 4th of July at the popular San Onofre Beach. We had to get up at 4.30 am ( yes am), load the car with surfboards, wet suits, picnic, bbq..., drove up to the beach and cued till the national park ranger finally opened the gate at 6 am. (Just a certain amount of cars are allowed at the beach therefore everyone comes early as possible) So 6.10am and Sabrina's friends jump into their wetsuits and into the waves. I've decided to miss the opportunity and took instead pictures of this event. It was a typical Californian summer day, cloudy, foggy with sunny intervals. At some point Sabrina decided the waves are in perfect condition to give me my first surf lesson. She is a great teacher and I really enjoyed it, even that I've swallowed litres of ocean water, cut of my toe and lost a part of my toe nail but I guess it's part of the fun or so
. The next day Sabrina guided my through OC and LA (thanks for the explicit list Sabrina): Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach (her home town), Downtown Los Angeles (garment district, jewellery district, Bunker Hill, Disney Concert Hall, MacArthur Park (where they had the hispanic festival), Mid-Wilshire District (where Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas have a house), Fairfax District (Canter's Deli, really yummee food!!), Hollywood (Grawman's Chinese Theatre), Sunset Blvd., Beverly Hills (Rodeo Drive) and finally Westwood (home of UCLA). On my last day we've treated us again with a further Mexican breakfast – lunch and yummee Mojito Margaritas, what a great way to say good bye
!
Thank you so much Sabrina for showing me the real Californian lifestyle, I had an amazing time!!!
