October 17, 2006 - Sydney, Australia

I arrived in Sydney at 6 30 pm, and it was dark. I found I couldn’t get my passport labeled with my working visa at the airport and have to do it in Sydney. The people from AIFS met me and put me on a mini bus to my hostel, called Base. It’s very nice and I was sharing a room with three other girls. I got to my room at 730pm and got in invited to a house party straight away so an hour later, after getting changed and stuff left the youth hostel for this Irish party. It was a lot of fun, thou out of the 40 people there only 2 were English and 2 were Scottish and the rest were Irish. It was a lot of fun!
Next day, I got up early and went exploring Sydney harbor, saw the bridge and opera house, it’s a creamy colour and tiled. Was slight disappointed but still unbelievable that I was final here!
When I got back to my room, I found two of the girls had moved out and be replace with two American nurses who were very nice. We went out to dinner together and got along great. One of them was also with AIFS and also had a talk the next day. So we left in the morning to go get ourselves sorted with AIFS and also booked tickets to fly to cairns on Wednesday. I also met a nice guy from Norway who is going be traveling with us.
That night we went out to an Irish pub with a British guy, there was a band playing and me and Chrissie (one of the nurses) got everyone dancing. was a great night!
Today I spent the day doing an RSA course so that I can get jobs as a barmaid in nsw. Then meet up with Chris (the British guy) and a finish guy joined us in going IMAX to see deep sea blue 3D, which was amazing but made me jump. Then we wondered along the harbour, the Opera House looks terrific at night!

Hi Kate,Good to have your news. You are enjoying yourself which is great. The Irish party sounds wild! You have a smidgeon of Irish blood, your great grandma's forebears came over from Ireland to Lancashire during the potato famine, name of O'Flaherty. Hope work goes as well as your social life.
