28 days...

January 8, 2008 - Akron, Ohio, United States

Hola familia y amigos!

Here it is... the website you can visit for your occasional dose of Kelly for the next 2 years. In just 28 days, on February 4, 2008 I will finally be on my way to Ecuador. I have no way of knowing how often I will be able to post journals and photos but I will do my very best to keep you current. Since I don't have anything funny or interesting to tell you about yet, I thought it would be fun to make a list of things I wonder about lately...

I wonder how many people will be in my group going to Ecuador. I wonder how long the flight will be. I wonder if I will have brothers and/or sisters in my host family. I wonder if I'll pack the right things. I wonder what guinea pig tastes like. I wonder what other shots I will need to get. (please none... please none... please...) I wonder what kind of things I will beg people to send me.

I wonder how well my spanish will hold up. I wonder if the Peace Corps knows/cares that I know nothing about farming. I wonder what kind of critters I will have to hide from at night. I wonder who read all the way through this list.

Ok... so I wonder about a lot more but I'm going to bring this first entry to a close. Adios!

Just wanted to say that you will be missed and while I am using the creature comforts of America, such as running water , television, air conditioning, etc... I will think of you! Safe travels-John

I read your entire list and am so excited for you. I wonder why I never thought of joining the Peace Corps when I was younger. Take care of yourself, adopt a critter to love, and remember how much your friends and family love you.

I read you whole list and, as usual with you, was simultaneously entertained and intrigued. Let's see if I can help you with some of your wonderings...Ecuador has...scorpions? giant, prehistoric cockroaches? You might want to pack some bug spray. And guinea pig, eh? Take a fork - that sounds tasty!

Seriously, though, I'm proud of you! I could never do what you are doing! Be careful, my little Wolverine, and when you return from your adventure, you can tell me all about it over a wax-paper-square of Hickie's burgers :)

Dear Kelly, I am so excited for you! What a wonderful adventure and life experience you are about to begin! I will admit, even as an "old lady" I am a little jealous! I wish this had been an opportunity when I was your age, or if it was, that I had taken it. I will follow your experiences on your blog. Thank you for keeping us in the loop! Be safe and enjoy! Love, Aunt Donna
