Hello again,
So today is my 5th day in Australia and I'm still struggling with jet lag. I'm so tired all the time and completely glad I don't have to start work just yet!!
I landed on Monday morning after an okay flight which was only 7 hours from Singapore (I was expecting another marathon) and got my room. Unfortunately the people I was sharing with were still asleep and it was so messy (can you tell I was sharing with boys yet) that I couldn't even tell which beds were free or not so I dumped my stuff and decided to go for a wander. Now at 8am, with no jacket and not having a clue where I even was there wasn't very far I could actually go so I think I made it around the block before heading back to the hostel.
Eventually it got to about 11am and the boys were still asleep so I decided it was time to go exploring so I grabbed my stuff from my room and head out. Now the most obvious place to go was the harbour so off I went. I could have sworn that the harbour was in a straight line from turning right out of the hostel - oh how wrong I was! I walked for about 2 miles and finally spotted a sign which said Dalring Harbour was in the opposite direction. Sweet. So my half hour walk ended up being a 2 hour mission just to see the bridge and the opera house! After seeing them, I had a wander round for a bit before jumping on the train back to the hostel where I could finally get in my room without disturbing everyone!
Next couple of days was pretty uneventful. I've just been trying to get myself organsied with tax number, bank account etc so that I can concentrate on enjoying myelf once its done so not a great deal to report from Sydney this time.
I was in another nasty hostel though, gain complete with cockroaches and apparently rats (although fortunately I never saw any!) I was supposed to be here for a week but after reading in my new bible Rugby League Week that the Newcastle Knights were playing at home I decided to get in touch wth my friend, Rohan SMith who is the assistant coach at the Knights and try and hit him up for a ticket.
Within 24 hours he became my total saviour, offering to put me up for a few days and show m around Newcastle etc so on Thursday night he drove down from Newcastle and we went to a gig just by Sydney Football Stadium which is a pretty impressive place (I had a walk up there on day two just to see it as it's where the Sydney Roosters play!)
The band we went to see were called The Mars Volta. I've never heard of them and Ro warned me that they were pretty out there. He was so right! Aparently their latest album was inspired by the workings of a ouija board. I found a link to them if anyone is interested http://www.myspace.com/themarsvolta although to be honest I can't see why you would be. They were poo. Really poo.
After that we started out on the 2 hour drive back to Newcastle and thats where I am now. No idea how long I'll stay here for but since the weather has been appalling today and I haven't actually been able to go out so I'll definitely stay until the weather picks up and I can go and do a bit of sightseeing!
The one bright spot to the weather is that I discovered that Fox Sports actually show all the televised SUper League matches so I had 3 hours of fun this afternoon watching Saints beat Bradford and Quins beat Leeds! Yeah!
So not much to tell at the moment but I'm sure things will pick up soon. I'm going to my first NRL match on Sunday afternoon which I'm really looking forward to and Ro's house mate (who is apparently a little bit mental) has said she'll take me out on Saturday night since Ro will have to stay in before the game.
Sorry for not bing very interesting today but I'll make sure I have some adventures soon! ![]()
