Vegas baby...

November 15, 2008 - Brisbane, Australia

 Helloooooo

So I'm currently back in Bris Vegas after a whirlwind tour of Northern Queensland and am currently having a couple of days off the beer which is rather nice actually!

Saturday morning I flew up to Brisbane from Sydney for the semi final and spent a rather manic 23 hours and 20 minutes partying, sleeping and partying some more before heading up to Cairns.

Landed in Brisbane at 10am on Saturday morning and went straight to the pub next to the hostel.  Apparently everyone had decided they were going to have a day of culture on Saturday and were going to the art gallery.  Fortunately for me I had to go and meet Mark to pick up my tickets for the game so I couldn't partake in the viewing of art.  Shame.  After meeting Mark and discussing the fact that the players are getting an allowance bigger than my salary it was time to go to bed for a couple of hours ready for the big game.

Now Brisbane on Saturday was absolutely roasting and the fan in the room, as well as being really loud was just circulating hot air which sucked a little but I managed to get about half an hour in before it was time to get up and go to the pub!  I went to the pub with one of the boys for dinner and we had steak and beer for $10 and the beer came in a massive jug which I could barely even hold let alone drink!  Then it was a quick hop in a taxi (we'd left it too late to walk) up to Suncorp Stadium which doesn't look like a Stadium at all from the outside but is pretty awesome inside.

Anyway it turned out one of the boys hadn't bought a ticket yet so he had my spare one which meant I had someone to sit with and we went in and realised our seats were right on half way, next to the England bench on the front row!  We couldn't have picked better seats if we'd paid a years wages!!  It was amazing!  Especially when the other boys called to find out where we were sitting and we gave them a wave!  :-)

Not really much to say about the game other than that England were rubbish.  Again.  Considering we are supposed to be the second best nation in rugby league we are pretty pants.  Afterwards though a film crew from BBC London came up and interviewed me for TV so that was exciting although I had to be diplomatic and say that the boys had done their best but just got beaten by a better team on the day when what I really wanted to say was that they were cr@p and looked like they were more interested in going out drinking than playing rugby!

After the game it was out for more drinking and frolics and I eventually got in at 3.15am and then had to get up precisely 3 hours later for my flight to Cairns!

Now I know I don't normally mentiopn flights unless they're particularly bad but since I got upgraded to business class between Brisbane and Cairns I'm going to talk about it lots and hopefully you will all be jealous tee hee!

It was AMAZING!!!!!  I had a seat all on its own next to the window and it reclined all the way back so I could easily fall asleep even though I didn't cos I was just too excited to be in business class and I had my own TV screen that came out from the arm and before we even took off the stewardess came round offering champagne (I just had a juice cos it was 9am and I was hungover!) and then I got a proper breakfast too and it was just awesome!  I was also on the side where I could watch the coastline going past so I got some great shots of the Barrier Reef from the air.

Landed in Cairns in about a million degree heat feeling very sorry for myself and exhausted.  Sunday was very much a day of rest...

Right I'm running out of internet credit now so will have to sign off for now.  Highlights to come include Great Barrier Reef, Cape Tribulation, bumping into the England captain at Australia Zoo, the biggest thunderstorm I have ever seen in my life and bed bugs!

I've also taken a heap of photos but won't be able to put those on until next week but just for Auntie Sheila there are plenty of me!

Thanks for that Laura. Think a two week break from the beer might be a better idea after all IT'S NEARLY CHRISTMAS! Well done getting the upgrade, different world isn't it? Looking forward to hearing about the bed bugs. Take care, love Auntie Sheila & Martin xxxx
