So now I only have 2 weeks left and it is going soooooooooooooooo quickly! And I've been so busy that I haven't had chance to update my blog so now I'm struggling to remember everything I've done!
I'll do my best though!
Okay so the last blog finished on the 16th of December so now I have heaps to tell you! The week finished pretty quietly after the Christmas Party the week before. Everyone has been winding down as the stadium officially shuts over Christmas (even though I am working every day!). I had my leaving lunch on the Thursday which was nice although I ate way too much and that, combined with a ridiculously hot day and a couple of glasses of wine made for a highly unproductive afternoon! So the next big thing to happen was Neighbours Night (or afternoon since it started at 3pm!) which was on the Sunday. I had been looking forward to this for AGES and was determined to have a great time after hearing about Team World Cups exploits at the Melbourne version!
I managed to persuade Jo to come along too even though she doesn't like Neighbours and basically the format is as follows:
- Queue to get in bar in central Sydney
- Get let in to bar and buy drinks
- Sit for an hour waiting for Neighbours Night to start while drinking more drinks
- Neighbours Night starts with little man shouting a lot and introducing 4 people from Neighbours you may or may not have heard of (3 of ours weren't even in it anymore!)
- Drink more while answering a mass of general knowledge questions
- Get more drunk while answering more questions
- Cheer at random people taking part in dancing/snogging competitions
- Get more drunk
- Win quiz (well that was for us anyway) and make money back on cost of event
- Dance to cheesy music til you fall over. Almost
- Get kicked out at 9pm (cos the bar is shutting not cos you're too drunk!)
I had a great time as you will see from my pics! I drunk an awful lot of the evil vodka red bull again (really need to stop doing that!) and danced my ass off! Unfortunately there was no karaoke this time out so I couldn't dazzle everyone with my rapping skills again! We won the quiz. You basically go in a team with the people sat around you and there was 7 of us. All girls. Jo said the questions were the same as from when she went to Neighbours Night in Melbourne so she got most of them. I did however manage to get the question about who played Eddie in The Rocky Horror Show which I was very impressed with! So we all took home $40 from our winnings which was good as that covered the entrance fee and with the spare $20 we bought a bottle of wine from the PNG barman who was mates with Stanley Gene - random! He told us he played RL in Newcastle which begs the question of why he was working in a bar in Sydney but I didn't think of this until afterwards so I didn't get to ask him. I think meeting Stanley's mate was the highlight of the day for Jo though! She really doesn't like Neighbours!
So after that I went to Balmain to watch a horror movie with a mate. I got 10 minutes in and had to turn it off cos I was so scared/drunk even though nothing scary had actually happened by that time!
Fortunately for me, the phones get switched off in my department over Christmas so I didn't have to rush to work the next day and just about made it in for 11am. Well done me!
4 hours later and I was off home again to recuperate.
Next up was Christmas Eve and I went out with a couple of people from work. Now Christmas Eve back home is generally packed wherever you go. Sydney however appears to be different. First up we went for a lovely Chinese meal in Surry Hills (where I might add I ate Snapper and duck!) and then decided to go to the pub. Empty. Never mind we'll try the next pub. Empty. Right sod it we're off to Balmain then! So off we trot in a taxi back to Mustafa's house where there was much beer and MTV karaoke! At about 11pm we decided to go to the pub in Balmain. EMPTY! They even had the chairs on the tables! It was so weird there was just nobody out! Bizarre! So we all went back to Mustafa's to party the night away and a good time was had by all. I managed to stay off the vodka red bull today and consequently had no hint of a hangover on Christmas Day! I sense a connection!
Right so it's 7pm on Monday night now and I'm still at work so I'm going to finish there for today and continue this later. Coming up (this part is more of a reminder for me than anyone else!)
- Christmas Day with Kevin and Jeanette
- Sydney - Hobart Yacht race on Boxing Day
- Bridge Climb
- My new apartment (I wish!)
- Future plans...
