In short: Tarifa, Soccer, Morocco, where we are now, next week.
We're alive.....hello everyone,
It's good to finally get to a computer, now I have the opporunity to write about the crazy time we've had since our last entry. Thank you for the lovely comments, much appreciated![]()
We finally decided to leave our favourite city- Sevilla, and head to the coast. We ended up taking the bus to Tarifa, the most southerly point in Spain and in Europe infact. You can see Africa clearly on the horizon and the ferry across takes just 35mins! Tarifa was a nice little town and you could easily walk from one end to the other, it's a famous spot for windsurfing and it's easy to see why. The day after we arrived we went for our first dip in the Atlantic ocean but the wind made for a very uncomfortable experience. We lay down to try and give our white skin some colour - of course we know better than to go out in the sun without sunscreen, but we thought the sun would be different in Europe and nothing like the Australian sun, oh how wrong we were
The wind was so strong it was like a sand storm, after a few minutes lying down you´re covered in sand!! You´d think this would deter us from spending the whole day in the blaring sun with the sand whipping us, but it didn´t. Almost one week later and we are still recovering, I wonder if we´ve learnt our lesson?!
We spent three nights in Tarifa, staying at two different Hostals. We were there for the Eurocup final and YAY ESPAÑA.....we won against Germany, it was wild once again! Fireworks, yelling, and SO MUCH beeping. You could hear constant beeping for hours that night all across the tiny city, and all across the country no doubt. This is Spains´s first cup title so we were very lucky to be in Spain for the celebrations. Our last day in Tarifa was by far the biggest day we´ve had so far, we planned to take the ferry to Morocco for the day and then the bus to the next destination. We woke up early to take the nine o'clock ferry...you know, just over to Africa
for a day tour (which was about the same price as catching the ferry there and back but the day trip included a tour of the city Tanger, a Moroccon lunch and the return ticket. I think I'll write a different blog entry for our time in Morroco- it was the most memorable day of the trip so far for me. Around every turn there was something different, an amazing culture shock. We got back to Tarifa at around 4pm and asked casually for the bus times to Malaga, we were informed that it was in fifteen so we were running for our lives from one end of town to the other in the heat with our packs and when we arrived the ticket man gave us tickets on the bus that stops at every town along the coast instead of a faster one which was ok, except for the fact that we spent five hours during the hottest part of the day in a bus without air conditioning...ahhh! Ok, so finally we arrived in Malaga at 10pm and it then took us an hour...ONE HOUR to find our flippin (hehe) hostel (not funny at the time). We were good budget backbackers though because the whole time we didn´t take a cab
go team adventure!
So, that´s a very condensed brief tale of our travels. We are now in Malaga and have had our first dip in the Mediterranian ....Malaga is a large city and the beaches are filled with rubbish, the sand is like dirt, it creates dust when you walk and the sand burns. We did find a beautiful beach a short bus ride out of town and we are now relaxing with our new found friends. We can´t get pics on at the moment but stay tuned. Got to rush through everything as time is money when you pay for the net. Tomorrow we´re off to Valencia for a few days and after up to Barcelona before a flight to Hamburg on the 15th of July
Much love,
K and Si xxx
