We woke to the sound of rain this morning and it was very overcast. Our game against WA was at 9.30 on the outside diamond. We got off to a good start and ended up winning 6-4. Sheri was the warm-up catcher for this game so it was her turn to shout encouragement at the team from the sidelines. Mind you just because she isn't on the field doesn't mean she is idle. She is busy retrieving bats, opening and closing gates and making sure the next pitcher is warm and ready to take over in the game when the coach feels a replacement is needed. Despite some very black clouds the rain managed to stay off for the whole game and we even saw the sun for some brief moments.
The second game, played immediately after the first, was against NSW and our team struggled from the start although managed to score a couple of early runs. Queensland's pitchers are not as experienced as the other states and we tend to rely on our batting and fielding to stay on top. Sheri was catching this game and did a good job but the NSW batters were too strong for our tiring pitchers and we lost 7-2.
The team went home for an hour or so just to get away from the grounds but they had to return to play a sudden death game against NSW Country at 5pm. It was a tight, tense game right from the start with virtually nobody getting bat on ball until two of the Queensland batters got safe hits and scored a run which ended up the only run of the game. So we survived to fight another day and they play at 9am in the morning against ACT and hopefully will win that to meet NSW again in a prelim final.
It's been a long, cold, miserable day but Tasha and I finally got the oven in the cabin working so we were able to cook our chicken legs for dinner. We also stopped into the shopping centre today and picked up some Krispy Kreme donuts, which everybody raves about.
Our time in Sydney is fast drawing to a close and we will be picking Sheri up from Parramatta on Sunday morning and heading up to Dubbo.
