At Dubbo

April 20, 2008 - Dubbo, Australia

Had a bit of a meltdown with the internet in the last day in Sydney so wasn't able to write an entry.

Queensland finished third at the Championships which was excellent considering our pitching stocks were well below the other states.  A win against the ACT 11-3 on the last morning put us into the prelim final against NSW but their batters were just too strong.

Victoria and NSW played out a rain delayed final and it was close all the way with Victoria coming out on top 4-3.  It was the wettest and coldest day on Saturday in Sydney and we spent most of the day huddled under blankets and sleeping bags.

Yesterday we left Sydney about 10 am, later than I would have liked but Sheri had to have a final team meeting before they all left.  The drive over the Blue Mountains was terrible, very wet and couldn't see anything of the view.  We stopped at Bathurst and then pushed on to Dubbo arrived a bit after 3pm.  We went straight to the zoo as you can buy a 2 day ticket.  We had about an hour looking around so we were able to plan what we wanted to do today.

Our cabin is only about 2 kilometres from the zoo so we are heading straight up there when it opens at 9am.  We are planning to leave about 3.30 to drive to Coonabarabran to stay overnight then it is an early start in the morning to head home to Brisbane and hopefully warmer weather.

Dubbo was actually much warmer than Sydney and I was in short sleeves for the first time since I left home.  It is a bit chilly this morning but at least the sun is shining so hopefully it will stay like that for the rest of the day.

Sheri is a bit tired and stiff but pulled up well after the tournament.  She may have a broken finger but it is not giving her too much trouble.  It is just the top of the finger so she just has it strapped.

We are really looking forward to getting home tomorrow and seeing all the pets.  Don't think we will get any internet access later today so this may be the last entry till I get home.
