Sheri played at this tournament over the Anzac Day long weekend, backing up after a week of Nationals in Sydney. This was the first year of this competition and next year it will be played Christchurch, New Zealand. Teams included Queensland Heat, Queensland Maroon (Sheri captained this team), NZ White Sox Development team, Canterbury Red Hawks and Port Moresby Women's team.
Games were spread over 4 days with each team facing each other once then a playoff for the grand final and placings. Sheri's team were quite young and inexperienced compared to the other Queensland team which included 5 Olympic softballers and most of the Queensland Open team. However the young team had wins over Canterbury and Port Moresby but struggled against the White Sox and Queensland Heat. They finished third after a thrilling game against the Red Hawks which went to two tie break innings and which saw them come from behind twice to level the scores - both times thanks to beautiful hits off Sheri's bat. In the end they came out on top which was quite satisfying.
Sheri played everyone of the 8 games over the weekend, catching in 7 of them. Her batting was outstanding and even though she was exhausted she enjoyed the weekend. It is always good to play different teams.
She won the Batting Award which was very exciting, capping off what has been an amazing 6 months having already won Sharks Sportsperson of the Year, Brisbane Softballer of the Year, Panthers Most Valuable Player and Most Dedicated Club Player.
She has also been accepted into the Queensland Academy of Sport Development Program which will give her the opportunity to get extra training in her quest for a place in the Queensland Open Team which is her next goal.
And she also finally passed her Level 2 Softball Coaching so is coming up through the ranks as a coach as well as a player.
