This was the most amazing day starting at 4.30 am and heading out on the first available train for Wimbledon. Our whole trip had been planned around this day and we weren't even certain that we would be early enough to secure one of the 6000 day tickets that go on sale. When we got to the queue there seemed to be quite a lot of people but we were issued with tickets 1719 and 1720 so we were pretty certain we would get it. After four hours of queuing and security checks we paid our money and entered the grounds. What a relef!!! We had had plenty time to pick which match we wanted to see when play began at 12 noon so when the courts opened we rushed to secure a front row seat on Court 16 to watch Sebastian Grosjean of France. We still had an hour and a half to wait for play to begin but at least we had a seat and didn't have to sit on the ground. There was plenty to see and time to take in the whole atmosphere of Wimbledon while we waited. We weren't disappointed - we were so close to the game and I was able to take some great photos. Grosjean went on to win comfortably in three sets.
Next we had to queue at Court 10 to get a good spot to watch a Women's Doubles match featuring Casey Dellaqua from Australia. Once again we were really close to the action and she won comfortably over a British pair. Sheri and Ree were able to get a photo with Casey after the game.
The match of the day was on Court 11 between Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden and Arnaud Clement of France. They played some great tennis and Clement came out on top in a fourth set tiebreak.
We did our shopping and then stopped to have something to eat on the hill watching Andy Murray on Centre Court on the big screen.
It was a long and tiring trip home but we all thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful day at Wimbledon but glad that we didn't have to queue up for a second day.
This will probably be my last entry as we are leaving the hostel this morning. We have the whole day in London and then head out to Heathrow Airport to catch our 10.30 flight to Hong Kong.
We have had the most wonderful time but are really looking forward to getting home again as we have missed our dogs and cats. I must admit I do feel the need to get back into a more normal routine.
Thanks to everyone who has left comments and we hope that you have enjoyed reading about our travels. Modern technology is wonderful allowing us the chance to share everything we have done.
See you all when we get home!
Rose and Sheri
