Paris

December 6, 2008 - Tours, France

Hi all... i have just arrived in Tours and am waiting to go to to my hostel but i reception is closed until 5. So Paris....

well actually it starts back in Singapore to continue our bad luck with transportation... the flight to Paris was delayed 2 hours. That was possilbly the most horrible thing to happen as we were already exhausted and sick of planes, airport and travelling. So we didn't leave singapore until 1:40 am, approximately 4:10 am adelaide time. So finally we get on the plane and ofcourse it is the longest and most horrible flight. I slept in bits and watched movies etc.

We finally arrive in Paris...late of course and we have to rush because our booking for the Eiffel Tower is at 1130 and we have to pick up a girl and get there in traffic. But all said and done we arrived in time and got to look at the city of Paris from 2 levels...the highest one (3rd) was too foggy, it was raining did i mention that? Then we did a monuments and sights tour of Paris with our fantastic guide Stéphanie. Then we got to our hotel, or hostel cqlled the Mije, it was great i had a beautiful view of an old church outside my window and my own little room. That eveing we did a little walking around Le Marais (near Notre Dame in Paris right around the corner from the hostel). We also visted Places des Vosges, a beautiful square with the house of Victor Hugo, before dinner and bed.

Day 2, went to the cqstle of Versailles, a stunning, over done castle of King Louis 14, and Marie Antoinette. It was stunning as ever, although raining again so no gardens unfortunaley. Then we took the metro to the Champs Elysées, the 3 km long expensive shopping street. I had to save 2 girls from missing the metro by putting my body in between the doors so they could push on....i earnt my keep that day. Emily (other chaperone) and i walked and looked etc...bought a hat and gloves in the christmas markets at the end of the champs elysées. Then went back to hostel quickly before going to dinner and then the boat right on the Seine, its called the Bateaux Mouches, because of all the glass on the windows the boats look like flys!!! That was lovely although i was exhausted, so glad to get to bed, despite it being so late. Friday we went to the Louvre and our lovely Stéphanie explained lots and showed us some of Nepoleon's rooms in the Louvre, because originally it was the French kings castle. Then we went to the Quartier Latin also near Notre Dame cathedral but the opposite side. There we looked at a few monuments before going to Notre Dame, went inside for a big lit a candle as i like to do and then went for a hot chocolate with Em to plan the last evening and transfers. Then went in a big cheap book store, i am talking 5 levels!!!! i was in heaven. Looked around for a bit then went to find next hostel before meeting the girls. Then we had dinner out together, was lovely and cheap and went back to hostel to pack etc.

Today we left Paris in 3 groups. I was in the second group but have been up since 5:30, my sleeping hasn't been great, i wake up an hour earlier than my alarm each morning. Got to St Pierres du Corps and realised that thats not exactly in Tours, so took another train to Tours. Then tried to work out how to get to my hostel and realised its shut until 5...only an hour more now, today has been the hardest day, feeling very alone but will be happy once in hostel and showered. So thats it thats everything until now, has been very busy but should slow down a little more. Taken lots of photos and cant wait to show them to you.

Love you all,

Talk soon

Laura xoxo

PS sorry if there are funny letters the keyboards are different and i cant be bothered checking!
