Wow!! We have just had some insane trips. The rest of our stay in Milan was interesting. After we had an interesting start when I wrote last time we found our way to the Duomo which is the second biggest cathedral in the world. Sadly enough I was wearing a skirt and we were not allowed in. So we wandered around town for the day and found an amazing park along with tones of old buildings. We enjoyed a nice supper on a patio near the Duomo and decided to take it easy for the day since we had been traveling so long on the train the night before. We went back to the hostel to change in order to make another attempt at the Duomo. No skirts this time but still we were not allowed in, Janet was wearing a dress overtop of capri's. Also not allowed.. So we never got to experience the Duomo on the inside but at least we saw it. When we got back to the hostel we ended up sharing our room with an Italian guy, Alex. He explained a lot of Italian habits to us and when the cops showed up at our hostel he even translated what was going on. Apparently someone had complained that a lady had been smoking in our public courtyard and called the cops on them. We also found out that Italians like to express their emotions a lot. Everywhere we go there was some kind of argument going on.
After a good nights sleep we left our hostel at 615 in the morning to head to the train station to start our journey over to Greece. We made it to the trainstation with what we thought was plenty of time, until we noticed the lineups. So we went and talked to the conductor to see if we needed tickets since we have our eurail pass, and we did. We had 15 minutes to go and the lineups were going nowhere!! So we made a desperate call and decided to use the atmtrain ticket machines and ended up having to pay full price, 43 Euros a person which was a days budget for us. It brought down our moods for a bit but we made it smoothly to our ferry. Our ferry was really fancy and looked more like a cruise ship, however we were the only girls traveling on it and that brought some interesting moments. First when we walked on the entire staff was there and it was a full out whistling and Hello Ladies time. We just laughed and kept on walking but that definitely was not the last of it. We did not book a room on the ferry and just got a deck pass, so we were supposed to sleep on the deck. We found some really nice couches in the childrens play area where we napped the entire afternoon after getting sunburned on the rooftop pool. It was a gorgeous day again. So later at night we tried falling asleep in the lounge, seeing as there was 4 men already asleep there. Well no luck we got yelled at in a foreign language and we were so lost. So back to the couches we went. My sleep was not great but at least i got 5 hours of it.
After the ferry we took the train to Athens since we had arrived in Patrai. It was quite the hectic trainride but there was a tonne of backpackers and we all joined together to find our way. When we made our way to our hostel we were pleasantly surprised. Great beds and facilities and a rooftop bar with a view of the Acropolis. We hungout for a bit but I was ruined from our trip so decided to crash early and let Janet go hit up a karaoke bar by herself. Today we went on a day trip to Naphlia which was set up by the hostel and definately worth the money. It used to be the capital of Rome and looks amazing. On the mountains above the town is a ruin called Palamidi where they had a prison and secret caves everywhere along with the castle. It was gorgeous. Afterwards we walked 999 steps back down to the town. SO WORTH IT. The only thing I regret is wearing flipflops since all the stone ruined my feet! Tomorrow we are going to explore the city and the next day we leave for Santorini on an overnight ferry. We learned our lesson and decided to book airseats at least so hopefully we sleep a little better this time. So I also posted some pictures however it was really hard to find fast internet, so they are out of order and only have quick descriptions but at least its a start. So next time I have a couple of hours again I will post some more. Hope all is well for everyone!!
