So I made it safe and sound to Barcelona! I absolutely love this city, it has history but is modern at the same time as well. I started off with an interesting trainride as I shared my overnight train with a transvestite and 2 awesome swedish girls. I had to do a couple double takes to figure "her" out but when they called out the pasports and "her" name was Jacob it all became very clear to me!! haha.. The swedish girls Moa and Elena were awesome. They were even in a hotel down the street of me and we have plans to go out tomorrow together which is nice to have some familiar faces. We also navigated the awesome Barcelona metro system together which is set up really good as well. That definately made life here a lot easier!!
Today after having settled in in my hostel, which was a good choice, I decided to go explore the city. I started out going down to the Rambla area which is right behind my hostel. Here there were a tonne of streetperformers and street patios where I ate a nice lunch in the sun. From there I decided to go check out this market I had heard about. On the way I came past the opera house Liceau and several more beautiful historic buildings. When I came to the market I was expecting the same as everywhere else with stands selling scarves and such but instead it was all food!! Mostly fruit, fish, meat and eggs but it was wonderful. I decided to go back later and buy myself a massive supper to cook. I did and 2 kiloś of fruit and fresh bread and meat only cost me 6 Euros!!! So cheap!!
After the first time to the marked I headed to the docks where I laid on the dock enjoying the wonderful weather for a while. I walked down some boulevards and just really had fun exploring the city. My sister also confirmed that she is going to Rome with me. Her boss thought it was a great idea and let her have the days off on short notice!! So exciting!!
My first night in Barcelona was really fun as well. At the hostel I met some British and American people with whom I went for supper.. My book led us to this amazing fancy place that was cheaper than ever!!! We tried a lot of crazy appetizers like Leek pie with ham crystals and feta, and the Spanish croquettes. And surprisingly I liked it all!! At this point I was also introduced to Sangria and the poor mans wine (wine mixed with lemon juice)... WOW I did not know that I like cheap wine!! Apparently its the only stuff I like.. So interestingly enough the pitchers of wine that we had led to a very fun night out in Barcelona. I am so happy with the hostel i picked as it is very social and there has been a lot of awesome people who let me tag along with them!!
Then on my second full day in Barcelona I rented a bike for the day from this little Dutch bike shop. The people were sooo nice and they saved me from a marriage proposal from a guy from Uganda!! The bike also helped in avoiding this kind of stuff because I would be gone like the wind as soon as something else started!! very useful!!
The bike ride was also amazing.. I biked for about 5 hours and saw ALL the sites in Barcelona.. It was amazing excersize and afterwards i went to relax on the beach.. I definitely felt overdressed on this beach and all I had on was my bikini!! I also biked passed a lot of Ghandi s work including the one they are still finishing. On my way back to the bike shop I passed an amazing shopping area. So I could not resist and returned my bike. Then I went and shopped. Luckily I did not find any clothes or shoes that I liked but I definitely stocked up on accessories..
For my last night I am planning on taking it easy seeing as my train to Sevilla leaves at 8 tomorrow morning.. So cant wait to let you all know my thoughts on Sevilla as Sarah (the girl we met in Greece) has been giving me a lot of advise on where to go and where to stay!! So should be good..
Until the next time.. Miss you all . xx Linda
