Outback in the Northwest of Argentina...
February 20, 2010 - Mendoza, Argentina
Howdy folks, Two new photo albums are up for you: 'From Huacachina to Lima' and 'Outback Northwest Argentina'. Enjoy :) We're writing this to you from Mendoza in west-central Argentina. We arrived this morning on a 20 hour bus ride from Salta in the north west of Argentina, where we spent 5 nights (in the same city - that's a record for us!).  Now we know we say that everything we do here is an adventure, but believe us when we say that this bus was in itself a luxury part of the trip....

Mendoza (Argentinan Wine Country)
November 18, 2009 - Mendoza, Argentina
We left Santiago (Chile), and headed for Mendoza (Argentina) on the 18th November. This is a fairly long bus trip (8 hrs) that we would normally do overnight. However, it involves crossing the border, and the mountain range is just beautiful. So it we did this bus ride through the day. and the scenery was just spectacular, with huge canyons, elevated rivers, shelves of overhanging mountain ice, and isolated towns all captivating us along the way. We finally arrivefd to Mendoza at about 5pm...

Salta, Cafeyate and La Rioja
September 5, 2009 - Mendoza, Argentina
We crossed the Bolivian boarder into Argentina and made our way to Salta, this took longer than we thought and we had to get a train and two buses. We met a really different family at the train station at Tupiza who were also travelling to Salta, a really individual couple who were great, who were travelling with their kids, a 3 year old and a 12 year old, they take them out of school for 5 months at a time and travel the world. We travelled for with them and a french couple from 11am...

Crossing the Andes
June 23, 2009 - Mendoza, Argentina
We've had our first delay of South America. The pass between Chile and Argentina that we needed to use to get to Mendoza has been closed for the last few days due to snow. Finally, today, it was opened again and so we caught the bus at a far too early a time..... The Chilean side of the border isn't that spectacular, beyond the fact that its high (at 3500m), and covered in snow. Once you get through the tunnel and border post on the Argentinian side it is truely impressive, with wide snow...

11) Mendoza (via Neuquen), Argentina
May 20, 2009 - Mendoza, Argentina
After a 12 hour stop over in Neuquen, a not very attractive town en route to Mendoza, we spent another 13,5 hours on a bus to our next destination. The bus terminal in Neuquen was slightly out of town and to get there we wanted to catch a collectivo (local bus) from the centre. As buses in Argentina are not an easy task we were offered a lift by two locals, a woman and her father, who were waiting to be picked up by her brother. We gratefully accepted their offer as none of the buses...
