Whales and gold
September 28, 2008 - Albany, Australia
G’ day all, It’s the end of term 3 for Nancy and we’d thought we’d pop off a short note before we go to Bali for rest and relaxation for a couple of weeks. Spring is here and the countryside is filling up with thousands of different types of wild flowers. In fact wild flower festivals, tours, hikes, walks and presentations are popular in many areas of SW WA. It is a burgeoning tourist attraction in some locales. As a matter of fact, tomorrow (Sunday) we are hoping to go on a...

Day to day Life
July 4, 2008 - Albany, Australia
How’s it going everyone? Well, winter is in full swing down on this side of the globe even though the shortest day of the year has passed. The last couple of weeks have been quite hectic but we’re almost done our dash and winter holidays are finally here! Last weekend, we went hiking out towards Bald Head (a nearby coastal landmark) with some friends on a gorgeous winter day. A lot of people were enjoying the sun’s warmth in shorts and sandals. While our friends saw 4 whales...

A Weekend at Home
May 25, 2008 - Albany, Australia
Cheers all, It’s been a weekend of several seasons. After work on Friday, we went to a local coastline rock formation called the Gap, where the seas were starting to roll (2 to 3 metres) and the wind was picking up. It was lots of fun to watch the swells hit the rocky coast and explode into the air in the narrow rocky gap. With the strengthening winds, the parking lot a couple hundred meters inland was drenched with ocean spray (and so were we!). Saturday started sunny but by noon low...

Nancy's Birthday
May 17, 2008 - Albany, Australia
How's it going, everyone? Nancy just celebrated her 44th birthday yesterday. And, of course, to celebrate this she was the recipient of typically Australian prezzies; an electric blanket, and turtlenecks! We also went out for supper to a wonderful Thai restaurant with another Canadian and her husband who we met about 7 - 10 days previously. They are a really nice couple and we very much enjoyed their company. This Thai restaurant is located 45 minutes north of Albany at the foot of...

SHARK ATTACK -Albany, Australia
May 11, 2008 - Albany, Australia
We weren't swimming on Saturday, even though it was a gorgeous day. Nevertheless, a 5 meter and two 4 meter white pointers (great white sharks) took advantage of the lovely weather to come into the town swimming beach (Middleton Beach) and have a quick bite. A teacher from a local school happened to be the unlucky bloke who was out for a morning dip and his leg was pretty messed up. Frankly he's lucky to be alive as the shark was distracted by a couple of other swimmers and a lady...
