Byron Bay NSW May 2013
May 17, 2013 - Byron Bay, Australia
We spent a few days in Byron Bay to check things out and catch up with Pete's Uncle Barry. We were a little overwhelmed at all of the people and traffic. It didn't really feel like a family friendly town to us, but at least we can say we have been there. They had some lovely beaches and views and was a very vibrant town full of buskers, travellers and vegans! The weather wasn't very friendly to us, but we managed to go to Nightcap National park for a drive and bush walk. It was a very...

Beware light fingers in - Byron Bay
June 28, 2013 - Byron Bay, Australia
Well we have just left after a week in Byron Bay... The sign entering town that says "slow down, chill out and relax" sums it up.  The place reminds us very much of Nimbin where everyone is stoned off their brains.  People don't get moving until about 10-11ish and then cycle everywhere (even at night with no lights) and go to bed late.  I think the state wide ban on synthetic hallicinogens probably doesn't apply to Byron Bay. Anyway we did stay in lovely caravan park that had direct acces...

My life is better than your holiday.
June 8, 2013 - Byron Bay, Australia
I'll sum Newcastle up quickly and move on: beautiful dramatic coastline, read two novels, it was cold and I didn't meet any interesting people. Next. Byron bay is the bomb. I took an overnight bus here and have ended up in a dorm with a bunch of top girls who are all travelling alone. As Jo said, we are the backpacking version of the Waltons. Byron bay is really chilled out and full of people getting in touch with their feelings and smoking weed and blah blah blah. The beach is gorgeous...

On the move...again!
July 14, 2012 - Byron Bay, Australia
Well I haven't written on here for ages so I thought I best update everyone on our travels. Mike and I have spent the past several weeks in Alstonville playing with the horses, chickens (chooks to the Ozzies), cats and donkey (he's a new addition). Had a fantastic time riding - Mike even rode a couple of times on Comet who is a very unpredictable little man...but he survived! It's been great being back around the animals again, after no animals in NZ. I even got to take Amazon (my favourite,...

Sunshine on the Sunshine Coast
June 15, 2012 - Byron Bay, Australia
Just got back from a mini break on the Sunshine Coast (1 hour north of Brisbane). We headed up on Wednesday evening to Caloundra and camped right by the beach - lovely holiday park - although not so fun sleeping in the back of the car again! Was totally worth it though as we got up early and went to Australia Zoo! Best zoo EVER!!! The Zoo was, as you can imagine, full of crocodiles, as its the one Steve Irwin built with his family. I've never seen crocs so big! Scary, mean, looking things...
