Cairns 15 - 31 August 2013
August 31, 2013 - Cairns, Australia
Finally our time in far north Queensland has come to an end and it is time to head back south along with the hoards of other travelers. In the last 2 weeks, we have been quite busy. Most of our time has been spent trying to get as much school work done as possible. We spent at least 4 hours each day on it and managed to get ahead. We headed out to get a bit of practice on the driving range and all have got quite a bit better since last time. We also tried a bit of rock climbing which left me...

Cool Cairns
July 29, 2013 - Cairns, Australia
Back again... We had five days in Cairns and dare I say it, I wished I'd packed a jumper.  We were lucky and Rhonda our friend we met up with in Port Douglas came and stayed with us at the house, so we had lots of time with her. A day was spent doing what most people do and that was going to Kuranda.  We went up via the sky rail which was commissioned in 1995 - the following are some of the facts about the skyway: The cableway is 7.5 kilometres (4.7 miles) long. It has a total of 114...

Far North Queensland July - August 2013
August 1, 2013 - Cairns, Australia
It has been an interesting few weeks weather wise. The rain gods were definitely smiling on us for a while. Zoe’s 9th birthday was a highlight as well as some beautiful scenery. We left the lovely free camp at Rollingstone to head to the small town of Lucinda. It is town that has a sugar mill and a caravan park and not much else. People head to Lucinda each year for their annual migration and stay for 3-4 months. They go out in the boats each day and with Hinchinbrook Island only a few km...

Party, sleep, sunbathe, repeat...
July 14, 2013 - Cairns, Australia
Cairns ended up being awesome and that's why I didn't have time to blog. Marenka, the girl I'd met on Maggie Island, had a great dorm of party people and on my first night at Gilligan's hostel I very nearly got kicked out for drinking in the room. Or "ignoring the house rules and showing a lack of respect" as the security guard phrased it. I felt like I was in school. They only want the backpackers to spend all of their money in the downstairs bar instead so we said screw them and carried...

Days 37-43 Cairns
August 26, 2012 - Cairns, Australia
Cairns has been fabulous. The Coconut Caravan Park is awesome, so much for the kids to do here.....3 pools including a splash park wtih water slides, play gounds, the worlds biggest jumping pillow, bike trackes, movies, free pancke mornings, turtles in the pond and more. We could have spent the whole time just at the park...but we didn't! For Simone's birthday on the 22nd we spend the afternoon playing at Muddys playground, had a lovely drink by the harbour and dinner at a restaurant...
