So to Fraser Island. We've arranged tae meet Geoffrey Berry at the Brisbane Central train station at 9.15 on the Thursday morning so we head on in and sure enough, there he is. We were picked up from our accommodation early in the morning, and after picking up a few extra people, we were driven to River Heads, where the barge to Fraser Island would depart from. Na het bewonderen van de walvissen werd het tijd om maar eens naar Fraser Island te gaan. Fraser Island ligt voor de kust van Hervey Bay en maakt deel uit van het ‘Great Sandy National Park’. Zoals de naam al doet vermoeden is er veel zand aanwezig ;-) In feite is Fraser Island het grootste zandeiland ter wereld. Met al dat zand kan ik natuurlijk met mijn Ford Falcon niets gaan doen op Fraser. Je kan er alleen naartoe met een 4x4. Er zijn geen verharde wegen... enkel wegen over los...

We met our group (2 london guys, 2 french girls, 2 irish girls, 1 german guy and us) on the evening before the trip and bought all our food and drink supplies. We then got up at 6am the next morning to get ready (Nick was up at 4:30am to watch the football!) At 10am we were on the ferry with our 4wd loaded up on the way to Fraser Island - the largest sand island in the world. We were free to roam the island on our own itinerary for the 3 days/2 nights and it is finally sunny!!!! Hooraaah....

As I just said Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and located off the east coast of Australia. It is World Heritage listed and has rainforests, mineral streams and over two hundred freshwater lakes.
