Lazy Day
February 12, 2010 - Half Moon Cay, Bahamas
oday was an “At Sea” day as we traveled steadily back toward Miami. We'll arrive at port there sometime around 4 AM tomorrow morning. Not a lot to report today. The weather wasn't very cooperative today – cool again, and overcast. Since everyone was aboard ship all day, the decks were lined with folks bundled against the chilly breeze, using beach towels or jackets. Still tolerable, but we would have preferred a hot sun! We sat around reading, getting up occasionally for a bite to...

Half Moon Cay
February 11, 2010 - Half Moon Cay, Bahamas
Anyone's picture of paradise must look similar to Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. Beige sugar. That's the consistency of the sand here. After sleeping in and having a leisurely breakfast in the main restaurant, we moseyed out to the “tender” (small transport boat) that would take us to the small island named Half Moon Cay. It's a private island, owned by the cruise lines, with full facilities on shore (bathrooms, food, bars). Its main attraction was the gorgeous crescent-shaped beach,...

Freeport
February 11, 2010 - Freeport, Bahamas
Attention passengers! ABOUT FACE! I believe I used the term balmy to describe the evening air last night. Sometime, before our dawn docking in Freeport, the balminess vanished. As we stepped onto our balconies, we were struck by the cold! OK, not Iowa-February-cold, but chilly for the Bahamas. I don't think the temps got much over 60 degrees today, with stiff winds throughout the day. Thank heavens there was sunshine to help compensate. No humidity either – the air was dry as a...

Tuesday Night
February 10, 2010 - Freeport, Bahamas
Tonight the official shipboard attire was “cruise elegant”, where everyone dresses to the nines pretty much just for the heck of it. Makes for a snappy looking bunch of passengers. We were treated very well again at supper, with several of us having the prime rib au jus. The waiter also brought a serving of lobster, as some in the group had never tried it. The pre-dinner bread and rolls are to die for – we devour several basketfulls at a sitting! To the karaoke lounge where Steve...

Bahama Mamma
February 10, 2010 - Nassau, Bahamas
Nassau! We got out of bed and walked out on our balconies to greet this new venue, a new country reNally, the former British colony, where English is still the official language and motorists drive on the left. The sun shone brightly and air was blissfully warm. Finally - this was what we travelled all those miles to feel. Docked alongside us are two other Carnival cruise ships - the Fascination and Sensation. Quite a sight, seeing all three ships together, their wide white expanses...
