Buffalo Bill Heads to Bruges
September 25, 2015 - Brugge, Belgium
We did our best to be up and at ‘em this morning to pick up our rental car and hit the road.  It’s amazing how two backpacks can get so spread out in such a little space!   One of the parting moments came when I discovered some old waterlogged books on the shelves of the boat.  There were multiple books about “Buffalo Bill” along with colorful illustrations of “cowboys and Indians” but written in at least two different languages.  The last time we were in Europe several folks...

"what the fuck are we doing in bruges?" - Colin F.
September 26, 2010 - Brugge, Belgium
we took the train to bruges from oostende, on sunday 26. we took the bus to the hostel, but managed to go all the way outside of town! haha whoops. when we eventually got there, we chucked the bags away then went out to explore. bruges is a unesco world heritage site, so i think that means they have to be REALLY careful about what they modify, building-wise. either way, its the picture-perfect fairytale town, as described in the movie, 'In Bruges'. Scott was loving it, it was exactly what he...

Bring on the Beers – Bruges Belgium
August 10, 2010 - Brugge, Belgium
Not being a big fan of beer unless I’m mowing the lawn of which I don’t do often, I was hesitant about trying the local fare in Bruges, Belgium but, as I’ve said more than once… while in Rome….  Besides, every beer, yep all 400 or so of them come in their own glass!  I was pleasantly surprised they taste great!  Some of them have pretty high alcohol contact say 9% but, I stuck to the Pils or the Framboise beer (Lambics) and their alcohol content is much lower.  Even Annie got in...

Ups and Downs to Belgium
April 1, 2010 - Brugge, Belgium
WOW! Thank goodness the Alley Kat recommended I take a couple days to unwind in Bruges after time in Amsterdam. I knew I shouldn't have listened to those people who said I only needed a couple days in Amsterdam, but alas there just wasn't enough time to stay a week everywhere! It took some getting used to, the narrow alleys that were regular high traffic streets and the smoke everywhere and the nice people... The hostel had hundreds of great people to meet and talk to -- I was a little irked...

In Bruges
July 9, 2009 - Brugge, Belgium
...and no we didn't see any racist dwarfs. Bruges is a lovely place and worth a visit. Everywhere is now getting busy with tourists, we're glad we seen most towns out of season and got them all to ourselves! I think we caught Bruges just as the tourists are making their way over. We stayed in a carpark... no showers... no toliet.... so we left the next day. We celebrated Chris's Birthday just outside Calais, where we had a lovely meal in a nice resturant. It was so civilised that it felt a...
