Long day !! Knew it would be, and we haven't even left Canada yet ! Up at 6am, our lovely friend Marc from Tofino cycles (http://www.tofcycles.com/) was heading to Nanaimo, and we planned ahead to ride with him. So, 2 massive backpacks in the small space behind the cabin in his truck, and we were away. We just made the 12:45 ferry across to Vancouver, and got our bus-skytrain combination to connect to YVR. Nice and early .... 7 hours early ! Started our wonderful malaria pill dosage just as...

We arrived in Tsawwassen in South Delta, BC and took a packed bus to .......an arena!!?? I have only ever watched 2 or 3 live hockey games in my life, but this WAS a Canadian tour, wasn't it? The real reason was because Uncle Brian AKA Uncle Funny was going to meet us here. This was where my cousin Pauline's son, Aaron, was playing a game with his team, the Grizzlies. Brian often goes to his games and he needed to be there that day especially because the coach had asked him to come and...

1/31/11 Vancouver really feels like several countries/cities rolled into one. There are touches of Hong Kong, Tokyo, San Francisco, and Europe but it also feels like nowhere I've ever been before. And then, once that's out of the way, you can...

Portland felt like home (Melbourne home). Every street had a cute independent shop, small bar or cafe. Our first experience was street chai - there's a lot of street food vendors around, and we had a tasty chai made for us by a lovely lady. Warmed us up too, because Portland was pretty damn cold! We didn't really "do" very much in Portland, our time was mostly spent shopping (no sales tax yippee!) and eating some of the best food we've had on our trip. We also saw Harry Potter in a small,...

"Sometimes the Captain walks in slow motion"- Maia We're currently in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with Lia's friend from University, Victor. I went out with 3 canadian girls I just met yesterday (one of them was Victor's friend, and the other two were her friends) and listening to them converse made me smile :) I can't remember any of the specific phrases I heard right now, but collectively, the slight differences in the language left an impression on me. So far, Vancouver has been...
