March 24, 2016 - Monteverde, Costa Rica
After leaving Monteverde, I spent a little more than two weeks traveling with Kelly and Eliza. After meeting in Granada, we spent a few days there just exploring the city and hanging out in the hostel. We didn't really have the energy to do much because it was extremely hot in the city; having all come straight from the mountains we were a bit shocked! We did walk down to the shore of Lake Nicaragua one day though, and also did a big grocery shopping trip to stock up on supplies for our next...

Costa Rican Cuisine
March 9, 2016 - Monteverde, Costa Rica
So here at last is the post about all the amazing food Maricella made during my time in Monteverde! This post won't have much of a story, but I just wanted to describe some of the wonderful things I got to try. Maricella's cooking was imaginative and delicious, and she put so much effort into making vegetarian food for me and trying out foods that I liked that were new to her. First of all, though, I want to update you on what I'm doing right now. My plans with Kelly and Eliza have changed...

Nannie and Grandpa's Visit
February 27, 2016 - Monteverde, Costa Rica
Nannie and Grandpa arrived safely at about 11 a.m. on Saturday the 20th, after braving the horrible road up to Monteverde. YAY!!!! :D I took them to my house, where we left their suitcases since their car is very small. We also unpacked a care package from my parents! Then we went to the same vegetarian restaurant that I went to with George and Mary. We shared a delicious and gorgeous mango, carrot, walnuts, and lettuce salad with passion fruit dressing, then I had the burritos I had last...

At Home in Monteverde
February 19, 2016 - Monteverde, Costa Rica
And life in Monteverde continues, as I feel more and more settled here, and more comfortable with everything from my family to Spanish to getting around the area. The weather has been very unseasonably wet and cold, which the locals complain about mightily! I actually like the cool temperatures and the constant mist and rain – much more comfortable than the heat in the lowlands. The wind (which is in fact typical for February) has caused power outages at the Institute, and a large tree fell...

January in Monteverde
February 1, 2016 - Monteverde, Costa Rica
I can't believe it's already the first day of February, and in just a week I'll have been here a month. It doesn't seem possible, but at the same time I feel like I've known Maricella and Maya forever. I've done so much since I last wrote I don't even know where to start. Here every day could be a page-long blog entry and the things I've learned could already fill my journal if I had time to write them all down! Some of you who have followed my family on other blog entries might notice a...
