 We're currently in our hotel in Cairo waiting till we get the overnight train to Aswan. We've had a great time so far. I didn't really have high expectations of Cairo but it's actually really nice especially Islamic Cairo. The people are really friendly here and surprisingly you don't get hassled too much, however, the traffic is a nightmare! Today we went to the Pyramids of Giza which are superb. Aber von vorne. nach einer doch ziemlich langen Anreise fuer so eine kurze Strecke bin ich heute norgen um 4 rechtzeitig zum schrei des Muezin in Kairo angekommen. Heute ist naemlich der anfang von Ramadan(Islamischer Fastenmonat). der Fahrer vom Hostel ist zum glueck am Flughafen gewesen um mich abzuholen, zu Pech fuer ihn hatte die Maschiene etwas Verspaetung und so konnte er nichts essen. Today we spent another day in the Cairo area.  Preparations for Obama continued, so traffic was even more chaotic than ever as markings on the sides of the roads were repainted, burnt-out street lamp bulbs were replaced by the hundreds, and beautiful potted plants were placed temporarily in the medians.  Our tour reps seem to find all the preparations quite amusing, and have taken to crediting Obama personally for any municipal maintenance they see taking place!
