Canal de Garonne
May 15, 2017 - Toulouse, France
Since we set off from Castets-en-Dorthe we have travelled virtually the length of the canal de Garonne, not for the first time, but with enormous pleasure.  We have never seen as many kingfishers as we saw in the first day of our journey in the reaches between Castets and Meilhan.  It was such a joy to watch them swooping and fishing and flashing their blue wings. We have stopped before at the mooring at La Falotte, but had never visited the mineral museum, nor eaten at the Chope et Pichet...

Bram and Bonnie
August 10, 2016 - Castelnaudary, France
We have been on the canal du midi since our return to France.  We still have all the same apprehensions about the depth of the canal and the skill of many of the boat hirers, but  it really is a charming canal.  The way that the canal follows the contours of the surrounding countryside is just enchanting, though a little scary when, as we did,  you come across two hotel boats in quick succession in a particularly winding section of the canal.  We have only gone as Far East as Carcassonne...

Tarn and Toulouse
July 11, 2016 - Toulouse, France
We did make it on to the Tarn again, and what a pleasure it was.   We arrived at Montauban to be told that there were no other boats on the Tarn, but to us, the conditions looked good.  The river was calm and the sun was shining.  So, off we set through the alarmingly deep double lock under the railway line and down on to the Tarn.  We decided not to stop at the Montauban pontoon on the river as we had visited the town of Montauban last August.  We headed four kilometres upstream to...

The Tarn
June 16, 2016 - Moissac, France
First of all, thank you to everyone who has sent messages about poor Bonnie and her eye problem.  I am very pleased to be able to report that the last visit to the vet was a lot more positive.  He removed her stitches and declared that the ulcer was greatly reduced,  though not entirely gone.  She is still taking antibiotic tablets and eye drops, but she does not have to walk around in the undignified lampshade and generally she seems a lot more comfortable.  We clearly need to keep...

Poor Bonnie Encore
May 29, 2016 - Buzet-sur-Baïse, France
Bonnie was prescribed Antibiotics by the vet and we dutifully administered the eye drops to no effect.   The ulcer did not heal, though there may have been a reason - more of that later.   When we returned to the vet, he suggested sewing her eye shut and giving more Antibiotics by mouth, so this is the stage we are at now.  She has a rather unattractive contraption with tubes around her eye and she wears a lampshade collar to stop her scratching at the stitches.   Just as we handed her...
