Its just like a big chinatown.
February 7, 2010 - Chennai, India
Thus spake The Leader of the Opposition as we walked through Hong Kong on our first day, proving that you can't be brilliant all the time. She claims its a profound philosophical comment. Our 9 hr flight from Melbourne was a breeze thanks to Cathay Pacific's great in-flight entertainment. This system of choosing your own things from a choice of easily 50 films as well as TV shows, documentaries and 800 albums really is a travel revolution. Flights of 9 hours just whizz by. Unusually for us we...

Gokarna
February 4, 2010 - Gokarna, India
It's still as beautiful as ever here, but is on the verge of being spoilt by Westerners, particularly at Kudlee and Om beaches.  We found an old friend in "Bent Horn", nickname given on a previous visit to one of the many cows who roam the streets of Gokarna.  She (along with an alarming number of other cows) appears pregnant and also has a calf tagging along with her.  The little one is currently "No Horns"... time will tell if that changes!! We took a stroll across to Kudlee Beach...

Ernakulum / Fort Cochin (aka Cochin)
January 31, 2010 - Ernakulum, India
Travelled by train from Trivandrum up to Ernakulum and had a bit of a strange experience regarding hotels.  We arrived late, past midnight, with no hotel booking.  This is not the best of plans and something we rarely do but we jumped into a tuk tuk and asked to be taken to "Sapphire Tourist Home", hoping not only that they had rooms, but that they would even be open at that time!  After what seemed like a lifetime racing down empty and deserted streets, most with no lighting whatsoever...

Kovalam
January 29, 2010 - Kovalam, India
From Kanniyakamuri, we travelled by bus to Trivandrum (3 hours) then chickened out of a further hour or so and caught a tuk tuk to Kovalam.  Anyone who visited Kovalam pre 2001 will be extremely surprised (if not shocked) at the changes there.  Even since we were last there in 2007, things have changed .. grown ... but do now seem to have stabilised. No longer is the front a strip of sand with a few stalls in front of some sand floored restaurants.  Now, there is a wide paved promenade...

Kanniyakumari - Land's End of India ...
January 28, 2010 - Kanniyakumari, India
Had trouble getting on tbe blog so have missed a few days.  All is well with us and we are currently in Kanniyakumari, which is the southern most tip of the Indian sub-continent.  It is where the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean meet so has sunrise/sets over 3 seas all at once!  We arrived here yesterday afternoon (Wed) after a very long bus journey from Madurai.  Fortunately, there were no hills involved so it wasn't too bad, but we were both very glad to get off and stretch...
