From Kanniyakamuri, we travelled by bus to Trivandrum (3 hours) then chickened out of a further hour or so and caught a tuk tuk to Kovalam.  Anyone who visited Kovalam pre 2001 will be extremely surprised (if not shocked) at the changes there.  Even since we were last there in 2007, things have changed .. grown ... but do now seem to have stabilised. No longer is the front a strip of sand with a few stalls in front of some sand floored restaurants.  Now, there is a wide paved promenade...

Lighthouse Beach

Kovalam is well known as an attractive village, based around two beaches separated by a functioning lighthouse. Unfortunately, Trivandrum airport has been opened to charter flights and Lighthouse Beach has been spoiled (in Patsy's view), although it does put another slant on "window shopping". Weekend in Kovalam

Hey everyone! How are you all? Thank you for all the lovely comments :D I've spent the weekend in Kovalam beach with about 30 other volunteers (!) and also Pabbu and Pandy from TPA. Yesterday it was actually really cloudy and it rained!!! It was awesome though, I think it made it more fun! It was really really hot so we still swam for hours and hours. I've been told that I'm the most hardcore beacher though because I'm always in the water! The beach is really nice but my Lonely Planet...
